2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If he were a freshman?
He was a freshman, and he improved. He wouldn't be as good as a freshman, so I don't understand what you are trying to say.
Still, they are not really similar.
Him being slightly older lowers his draft stock apparently. I think he'll be the steal of this draft.

If the worst case scenerio happens to the Cavs, they drop to 6th & Wiseman is gone, I would give Precious Achiuwa out of Memphis a hard look. I think he's being slept on, nbadraft.net has him going 12th. I know he'd be considered a reach @ #6, but imo he has higher upside than most guys projected ahead of him.

Having done this, I would shift my focus to Udoka Azubuike. He's another guy being slept on. He's a very young Senior, hasn't turned 21 yet. He has a massve 7'6" wingspan, giving him potential as a rim protector. Is listed @ 270 pounds, strong enough to power his way to the rim @ the pro's. I would trade future 2nds for the 30th pick & select him.

I've mentioned Saddiq Bey. He's another guy I'd like to see in a Cavs uni. He's 6'8" with a 6'10" wingspan & a potent offensive arsenal.

It would seem far fetched for the Cavs to get them all, but with the right maneuvering, it's possible.

For those that haven't read the board in the last few weeks, can you clarify the confusion on your feelings for James Wiseman and Precious Achiuwa, please? It hasn't been very clear.

The narrative that the league has moved on from traditional bigs is greatly overstated. Sure, if you're Yao Ming, it applies. Having a mobile big like Wiseman might be as valuable as ever.

Pairing him in the frontcourt with a player like Achiuwa is the right move. Achiuwa has the mobility of a 3 with the length of a 5. His shooting mechanics are solid. He's the perfect pf in the modern NBA imo.

Having said that about Wiseman, I'm more intrigued with a potential pairing of Achiuwa & Azubuike. Azubuike has been regarded as a great athlete for a guy his size. He boasts a 7 feet 270 lb. frame with a reported 7'7" wingspan, which is insane. He could develop into a monster on the low block. I'm very intrigued with the prospects of adding him in the late first round.

To say he has clear concerns on the offensive side of the court is a generous understatement. The most concerning has to be a 27.7% usage rate in over 30 minutes a game with only 1.0 assists per game and a cautionary 2.8 turnovers a game. Those percentages are only palatable because he had to be a #1 offensive option without the offensive talent to be a #1 scorer. I also think it's fair to say a free throw percentage under 60% and an efg% on the low side also show he has a lot to work on in the half court. If Wiseman played the whole season, Precious may not have looked so inefficient offensively. However, there is enough defensive talent to get him drafted somewhere in the middle of the first round.

He'd be the 5th option on our team, which would take pressure away from him & improve his percentages. He has a good shooting form & shot a respectable 32% from downtown as a primary option. If he can avg. 70% from the line at the next level that'd be ideal & totally doable.

He's just scratching the surface of his potential.

That 32% was on 0.4 makes per game from the college line while shooting under 60% at the free throw line. If he becomes a shooter at the NBA level, it's not going to be for a while. He's not particularly close right now.

Defensive wing project in the middle of the first round of a bad draft is an okay investment. I wouldn't write two or three posts about a player like that per day when the Cavs do not currently have a mid-first selection, but he will be a rotation player for somebody while he focuses on a catch and shoot role.

From Azubuike's wiki: "Azubuike's career field goal percentage of 74.9% is the highest in NCAA history."

This guy is being slept on pretty heavily.

But is that because he's actually skilled offensively? Or because like 80% of his attempts are dunks or layups? To his credit he knows his weaknesses and simply never attempts a shot from outside of ~10 feet. But in the NBA his lack of versatility offensively will be an issue.

He has some post moves he can rely on at the NBA level. If he works hard on his back to the basket game he'll be an allstar calliber player.

His fg% shows how imposing of a big man he is.

He's certainly imposing. My draft rater has him the #1 rim protector in the draft. But is he actually a good enough post player to earn post-up touches in the modern NBA, where only a dozen players in the entire league are good enough post scorers to earn those touches? I'm not so sure.

Very few are good enough to earn actual post touches in the NBA and I've seen little to nothing from Azubuike to suggest he'd be any different. His post moves were limited.

The bread and butter of the Kansas offense was him catching lobs out of the PnR with Dotson.

I'm curious how he does on your draft rater. With his low steals and embarrassing FT% in addition to being an older prospect, I'm guessing he doesn't grade out too favorably.

Yeah, it doesn't like him overall. Rates him as a good but not great defensive prospect, and the worst offensive prospect in the draft by a distance. His turnover rate is another issue...I can see defenders poking the ball away from him a lot in the NBA. You'd hope to see a prospect like him feast on smaller opponents, but anecdotally at least he struggled more against smaller, quicker defenders, and had his best games against TCU's big burly Kevin Samuel. If he sticks at all, it'll probably be in a pure lob catcher role offensively.

I like Saddiq Bey in the late lottery, could be an interesting player for us if we manage to get another pick somehow.
I wouldn’t touch Achiuwa with the first 20 picks.
Azubuike may go undrafted
