2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So who do ya'll think are the sleepers from this draft? I got Azubuike, you can't teach height (or length). Ty-Shon Alexander out of Creighton is another one. He's a combo guard that can flat out score the ball. Udoka is projected in the late 30's, while Alexander goes late 50's. Would love to see them in a Cavs uni.

In terms of potential, I have Azubuike right up there with Wiseman.

Thoughts?

I think you have written this exact same post several times.

I am very intrigued with a quote I read from Windhorst recently:

"I suspect first-round picks will be for sale in this draft," a team executive told ESPN's Brian Windhorst. "We haven't really seen that in a decade."

I am looking at which teams have the least stable financial situation:

Orlando Magic, Indiana Pacers, Utah Jazz, OKC Thunder, Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings seem to have the most favorable combination of lesser franchise value and less wealth in the ownership group. I am also intrigued by the pressure Milwaukee must be feeling with a short window to win before Greek Freak is a potential free agent.

At the very least, I would guess some high second rounders should be for sale if Deep Pockets Dan wants to buy a pick. We may see a trade with players involved with money attached to bail one of those teams out.

So it is valuable to target weaker franchises who rely on gate revenue. The bottom line is that wing talent wins championships in the modern NBA, and the Cavaliers are weakest in wing talent and strongest in the support positions. I hope to see trades with some of the bolded teams.

I expect Dan to try to go pick shopping too. A nice impulse buy with his huge uptick in already large fortune.

Oubre Jr. is intriguing. Saric, Cam Johnson and Mikal Bridges are all playing well. I wonder if we couldn’t find some way to get Oubre from them.

As far as our main pick, lotto night is only 10 days away!

To have any hope of getting Wiseman or LaMelo, we have to land in the top3(possibly even top2). If you like other players, 4 or 5 could be ok but hopefully we end up 1st or 2nd

I know this is a complete reverse of what I have been saying but I'm coming round to the idea of drafting Wiseman/Okongwu and giving sexton/garland one more season. If it goes to shit then we will be in the Cade Cunningham sweep stakes and if it doesnt we can pick up a wing in a loaded 2021 wing class

This is nice in theory but wings tend to flame out at spectacular rates........it is why they are so valuable. A year ago, it looked like 2020 could have 3-5 wings go in the lottery...........all of those guys (Okoro, Green, McDaniels, Whitney, Williamson) had insanely underwhelming Freshman years. I tend to like the 2021 wing class a bit more but it is such a crap shoot......relative to how wings are used at the college level.

The Cavs only strategy should be trying to draft the best player at their given draft slot. If a guard is significantly higher on their board than a big, they should be trading down or taking the guard. Where teams really get in trouble is forgoing board differences for need. I like Okongwu and have been driving his bandwagon.......but I really struggle with taking Wiseman over guys like Ball, Haliburton and Edwards, if we are put to that decision. I just think there is far more certainty with those players,,,,, and someone like Wiseman is just not a singular enough talent to roll the dice on, relative to how the big man position has evolved.

A Wiseman once told me to appreciate the Precious gift of life. He also told me to keep my enemies at Bey.

My preferred early second round sleepers kept his name in the draft.

Huge improvement from his freshman season to last season, same measurements and defensive awareness as Bey.

Do we have 2nd rounders this year? I hope Dan just spends whatever on extra picks. May as well get some 2 way deals going in the 22nd round like they did with Wade.

I am a little surprised more guys that were thinking of staying in school aren't deciding to go to the draft. Yes, it would hurt odds of getting in, but I think an NBA season is more likely than College Hoops. Might be wrong, but guys may not get a chance to show out and that could hurt them the following year big time and by that time they are older etc

I've started to see a few mock drafts that have us taking Wiseman. NBAdraft.net has Wiseman falling to #7. If we fall to 5th in the lottery, it may not affect us much. He could still be there for the taking.

#1 why don't you like Okongwu?

#2 Who in the lottery needs a center? I am not sure I can answer that. GS only?

I don't like Okongwu because he's a slightly undersized energy big. He was a decent rim protector in college but I don't know if that translates to the pro's. I want my center to be a threat on the low block. Wiseman has elite length.

Aside from the Warriors & us, there aren't many teams in need of a center. Does Drummond have any upside at this stage in his career? Maybe, but he has too many flaws right now to be counted on long term.
