2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
An ever better Kelly Oubre?! that's scaaaary!

I mean, we're not getting a star at #5. That much is pretty clear.

In case you haven't been paying attention, Kelly Oubre has actually been turning into a pretty daggon solid wing.

Last years stats:

18.7 PPG
6.4 RPG
35.2% from 3pt
78% FT

And his defense isn't terrible by any stretch of the imagination

.086 DEF WS
110.4 DEF Rating (3rd on his team counting players with actual meaningful minutes)

And still only 24.

Not saying Oubre is a superstar, or even close to it. But if we're looking for a service-able wing who can impact both ends of the floor, calling someone "an even better Kelly Oubre" doesn't seem like much of a bash.

He has that look of guy who is huge, but proportional. I have no evidence for this, but I think those guys tend to move better.

NBA ready body at 7'2" with a 7'6" wingspan. Gonna be hard to pass on him if he is there. It will make a lot of sense too if Drummond is going to be shopped like has been reported.

Vecenie keeps insisting on putting Toppin at 5 in most of his mocks. I personally don't see it...I think it just means Vecenie has no intel at all regarding the Cavs.

Did Vassell change his jumpshot or has it always looked like this?

Reminds me of being a little kid trying to shoot a 3. I've never paid enough attention to him, but seeing that form makes me want no part of him.

A friend of mine has/had that shooting style... we called him Jack Sikma (old Seattle Supersonic player).

That shot was impossible to block. The only way to block it was to come off your man and swipe at the ball as he brought it behind his head, but he like to shoot from the deep corner, so yeah, it may not look pretty, but you aren't going to block that jumper unless you have 4-5 inches on him and can get off the ground a little.

Edit: had to look him up to make sure, but Detlef Schrempf (ex Dallas Mav) also had that high release... not as far behind his head as Sikma... but a release way above his eye level. Both guys were around 6'10", and with that high release... you aren't blocking that shit. And even with that style, different eras, but both guys were considered solid shooters for their time.

I think it'll work well for him as a floor spacer, but I'm not sure how well it's gonna work when he can't set his feet and square up.

I can tolerate Avdija but Toppin...really

I don't understand, why people are obsessed with Toppin despite his flaws. I understand, every player has flaws but I don't see any upside with Toppin. Unless, you're telling me the Cavs are getting wings during free agency, Toppin shouldn't even be in the discussion.

Atleast,Avdija have some defensive capabilities compare to Toppin.

Funky shots like that don't always extend to NBA 3. Can't believe so many are worried about Haliburton's shot and not Vassell's

This isn’t really surprising to me. This draft is so much about who “could” do something, And not about who “can” do something at the top. Toppin is older as a prospect And this may limit his ceiling to some degree. But he will score and presumably will benefit with even more spacing. A team like the Cavs or the Knicks who really struggled scoring in 2019-2020 May see the appeal. His defense is bad, true. One hopes that a team can rectify that collectively
