2020 NFL Draft - Pick #115 - Harrison Bryant, TE, Florida Atlantic

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Looks to be a BPA move, judging by Coach's comments. With the new offense running two te sets predominantly, this pick gives us bigtime depth at a position the team values. If we were drafting to fill holes, we would have gone another direction. Nice pick.

It also allows us to let Njoko walk in the off-season if he does not have a good/great year. Gives us a backup at the role which is very important in the system, plus the guy can catch and gives great effort on blocking.

Could still use a burner as a 3rd WR, and I think we re-sign Higgins if the price is right, but that's a TON of versatility on offense and gives Stefanski and Van Pelt the ability to really play with personnel groupings.

Most teams struggle to cover one athletic TE. We could now throw three on the field at the same time if we want.

I like the pick. Once you get out of round three you can't really draft for need. You just need to take some swings on guys with the most talent.

Bryant has some reliable hands. He posted up Okudah in the Ohio State game and out muscled him. Impressive.

Needs to add some weight and refine his route running.

You're lying to yourself if you say the NFL isn't a passing league. It clearly is and that isn't changing anytime soon.

That said... being able to pass the ball effectively out of big formations is one of the biggest market inefficiencies in the league right now. You look around the NFL and the three most used passing formations were 11, 12 and 21 in that order.

Of the 32 teams in the league, only 8 of them (25%) were the most successful throwing the ball out of 11 personnel. 24 of 32 teams (75%) saw more success passing out of 12 or 21.

But despite that information, which is obviously readily available to every NFL team because you can find it for free online, 64% of all NFL passes were thrown out of 11 personnel, compared to just 20% out of 12 and 8% out of 21.

The teams that threw the ball the least with 3+ WRs on the field in 2019 were the Vikings, Eagles, 49ers and Ravens.

All four playoff teams and with offenses ranked 1st (BAL), 8th (SF), 10th (MIN) and 17th (PHL) in DVOA passing.

Stefanski knows exactly what the kind of system he wants to run offensively and Berry has done an excellent job of adding talent at the necessary positions - OL, TE, FB - to make that system a reality. Bryant can hopefully become another big part of that.

Killer content; cheers

Am I the only one who thinks it's a smart move to select a shorter player as the future/long-term center for a short quarterback?

He's undersized but based on all reports I've read, he's incredibly quick and moves well, which tells me he's a good fit for ZBS.

Feels like a guy that we just want to get into the building and see how he works and perhaps we could plug him in as needed. If he's better suited for the new scheme than the back half of our O-line roster, seems like a win to me.

Whelp, I just realized I put this in the wrong thread. But thanks for your response anyhow.

Dropped one today but then also snagged a score. Hopefully he lets they drop to; had serious sip on it but he’s gotta reel that in. If Njoku can’t get his collective shit together he’s going to continue to be a staple.
