The Donovan Peoples-Jones Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yes, elitism isn’t a Michigan problem at all.

Leroy Hoard, Steve Everitt and Campy Russell disagree.

Yeah, it really isn’t, because this Ohio-based sports team forum, and the Browns fans in general, arent Michigan fans.

And, of course; three athletes who played significantly prior to the front running OSU mass hysteria fan base that now exists. Wild.

LOT of whining about something that isn't even a blip on the radar of relevance.

Browns media asking dumbass questions and treating certain players like shit (and not just MICHIGAN ones) is not the fault of Buckeye fans.

In my mind, the good news here is that nothing we chat about here or that we title a thread is going to impact Donovan Peoples-Jones’ career. Let’s lighten up a bit...

I liked the pick, dislike Michigan, AND didn’t go to OSU... but I guess from now on I’ll reserve my shit talk for the Steelers like the other grown ups :)

Its petty, Notre Dame is Purdue rival and i did not root against Brady Quinn or care he went to Notre Dame. I mean i thought it was a bad pick, but that was purely because Quinn sucked, not because of the school he went too.

Notre Dame may be Purdue's rival, but Purdue is not Notre Dame's rival.

People getting way too worked up about a few letters in a thread title. Media shouldn't be acting stupid, but DPJ isn't gonna get ridiculed by fans for going to tsun.

I legit don’t understand what this means.

Can name more. Also, Campy still is involved with the team.

It's just so bush league. I mean, college rivalries are fine...in college. Or if it is mutual ribbing between friends who are grads of different school, that's fine. But this weird thing of carrying it on beyond that...it's like Andy from The Office obsessing over being a Cornell grad. At some point, it's like "dude...college is over."

The icing, so to speak, is that most OSU fans... didn’t go to Ohio State.

So it’s a lot of grown adults, who didn’t go there, ragging on 21-23 year olds because they chose a school to play football at... the rival of a school they didn’t go to? Erm...

I graduated from tOSU. Lived in the stadium for 2 years. It was one of the honor dorms for the real poor people. LOL You had to work in the lunch room, clean hallways or restrooms for around 20 hours a week.

I guess I am wired different then u guys. Rivalries never end. Not only do I dislike everything bout scUM but I still dislike my HS rivalries still.

But like... why?

It's all fun to give a good-natured ribbing. And hey, game day? Go all-out. Listen to the Dead Schembecklers at 7AM while doing kegs and eggs, shout clever insults at the Michigan fans coming into the stadium, boo their team coming out onto the field... but when the game's over and everyone's walking out of the Shoe, you turn to that Michigan fan who's walking next to you and say something civil--even if it rubs in the victory a bit.

When a grown man is playing for your home team and you can't look past the school he went to, that's just something that doesn't help anyone. Something relevant happens between OSU/Michigan, or The Game is coming up, poke a little bit of fun at him. But the rest of the time? Show him respect, and open arms, just like you would anyone else visiting your town. I know I'd go out of my way to make sure any notions he had about people giving him shit for playing at Michigan were unfounded, and that we're just happy to have him play for the Browns and wish him the best. It's the same way I'd treat the Blue Jays fan who came down to see a baseball game. I want that person to think the most of Cleveland and our people.

I'm not sure why, but having to replace a word or refer to something as an insult like calling the school "scUM" just really bugs me. To me, it feels like that person is really showing off a level of immaturity.

I am as big an OSU homer as they get. The fact that Peppers got ribbed by fans for going to Michigan walking the streets of Cleveland is asinine. A few dumb eggs can ruin things for everyone.
I agree, there is a difference between hating a player vs a program. Once a guy joins our team he is now a Cleveland Brown. I am not going to hate on the guy for where he went.
With that said, I did not take the title of the thread as a knock on the player, but more just a knock on TTUN. I did not bother me to the extent it has some of you, but with all things, people are going to take things differently, so it’s best to be safe and just change the title.

With that said we are in a sports forum, so lets

Really?

I'm a big rivalry guy, high school through the pros, but that's always been something that stays on the field. Sure there's some good-natured ribbing that takes place, but it's never malicious.

My best friend and I played hoops at rival high schools 15 years ago.

Serious question not meant to slight you in any way; did you actually participate in high school sports?

But it's primarily the following:

Guys who played for Michigan
Baker Mayfield

Anyone see the common thread?

Good-natured ribbing is fine. I don't think Peppers would've said much if people were giving him a light-hearted jab every now and then and having a conversation / wishing him well. If they were behaving anything like many of the OSU fans I see in Columbus on gameday, it was likely less good-natured ribbing and more borderline harassment.

Theres now, officially, more posts in this thread about love/hate of Michigan and OSU than about the guy drafted. It doesnt seem like anyone is changing their mind about feelings toward/about colleges, so maybe we can talk about the player and not the school?
