The Donovan Peoples-Jones Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Really?

I'm a big rivalry guy, high school through the pros, but that's always been something that stays on the field. Sure there's some good-natured ribbing that takes place, but it's never malicious.

My best friend and I played hoops at rival high schools 15 years ago.

Serious question not meant to slight you in any way; did you actually participate in high school sports?

Honestly can't imagine giving a shit about high school rivalries after graduating. I'm not even sure I could tell you who my high school's rival was at this point. :chuckle:

While we are on this topic, am I the only one that finds it super cringey and corny when Ohio State fans leave out the letter "M" from social media posts or replaces it with the X emoji?

UofM lives rent-free in OSUs head.
OSU beats UofM at everything.
Its really strange.

It dates back to the John Cooper / Lloyd Carr days. From 1988 - 2000, we barely sniffed any W's but have been dominant since.

Twenty years may seem like a long time but in rivalry fandom, we were the laughing stock for quite awhile and were reminded of it by UM fans every chance they got.

Hell, I grew up in Columbus and remember kids would wear Charles Woodson jerseys because those 90s teams would just whip our ass, even when we had great teams. Michigan was THE TEAM back then, similar to Florida's tenure under Meyer.

I hate Michigan and always will for the sake of the rivalry but when a player joins my professional team, they're now my guy.

Michigan is one of my alma mater's rivals (Notre Dame), and I'm definitely no fan of theirs. But yeah, I think the OSU hatred of anything-Michigan-related is a bit much and gets old. You can take joy in your school dominating them without coming off as some petty 13-year-old online.

This.

People who don't follow the rivalry don't remember when OSU was the punching bag and Michigan fans tormented them.

I can assure you, OSU fans did not forget.

THAT SAID...lived in Columbus for 6 years and am moving back in 2021..graduated from OSU, come from a Buckeye family...but I'm not one of those fans who foam at the mouth at the mere mention of Michigan. Do I "sports hate" them sure. Do I revel in their sports misery, sure. Will I start fights with Michigan fans I see around? No, on the contrary I usually start up friendly conversations about CFB with them.

Oh I know, I was around then. Desmond Howard, Elvis Grbac. How could they???????!!!

What the hell does that have to do with a player who, 20 years later, is playing for the professional team we all cheer for? I genuinely think I'll never understand it.

Basically, what OSU fans describe, Michigan fans should be feeling today then right? Because they have literally gone through the same thing now?

So why aren't Michigan fans screaming "GO BACK TO OHIO STATE" whenever Ward misses a tackle? Or gets burnt for a long gain? Or is walking around, eating a sandwich at Subway? This strain of OSU fans, I just picture as Jim Carey in Cable Guy.

It seriously doesn't even register in my head, when I watch the Browns, that any of these guys played for a college team. Even ones I dislike, it just isn't a thing that occupies my mind.....I think that is why it genuinely fascinates me that OSU fans seem wired this way.

Um, probably because for every 100 OSU/Browns fans, there's 1 UM/Browns fan.

Really has nothing to do with DPJ- someone made a post about "Michigan living in OSU fans' heads" and someone else explained why you could see it that way and what the reason was. I built on and agreed with his reasoning.

None of it has anything to do with DPJ, consistent with the last 4 pages of this thread, but that's where the conversation has gone.

Navy. So obviously, we have a rival.

Personally, I think those kind of OSU fans are just compensating for the inferiority complex they feel because Michigan is a better school academically.

:chuckle:

Yeaaaaaaah, that's it. I could give a shit less about Michigan vs Ohio State academically... If I wanted to watch an academic decathlon, I would. All that matters is what happens that last Saturday in November, and that Ohio State graduates kids and doesn't embarrass themselves off the field. The SEC powers give no fucks about academics and win all the championships. Maybe Notre Dame and Michigan should re-evaluate that side of things so they dont have to live in their glory years from half a century ago.

The thread name is petty, and it's mainly "boomer" OSU fans that call Michigan "scUM" or Harbough "Hairball". I think both are extremely corny myself. That Team up North is about as far as I'll go. I'm glad it's been changed because that kid doesn't need to feel like he's hated here before he even puts a jersey on. I'm a huge OSU fan and I wanted DPJ over KJ Hill. Why? DPJ is the better prospect for what my favorite NFL team needs. I wanted him in the 4th round. Got him in the 6th. One of my favorite picks of the draft and I hope he balls out. I rooted for Peppers and Braylon too. Once you put on that orange and brown it doesnt matter where you went to college.

Yeah, OSU is a damn fine school now days, even if it isn't at Michigan's impressive levels academically, but nobody actually gives a fuck about that in the football rivalry. It's just something MICH fans pull out because they can't compete on the field anymore.
