2020 NFL Draft - Pick #44 - Grant Delpit, S, LSU

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Was watching with my young son, and as Delpit was charging he asked, “why isn’t the QB mov—“ BOOM.
I had the exact same thought running through my head lol. Welcome to the NFL moment for that poor QB.

If Delpit can stay healthy, I'm not as worried about retaining Harrison in 2022. Delpit looks like a versatile safety who is above average at both free and strong positions. That's so valuable for disguising coverages with JJ3.

Delpit just looks special out there.. I know people wanted Winfield in last years draft and that Winfield is legit but man delpit can be every bit as good if not better because he possesses better size and speed

It's really easy to play the hindsight game when a player blows his achilles tendon before preseason starts. However, Delpit is the better player when healthy.

I'm trying so hard not to get my hopes back up to where they were before Delpit's injury.

I know that players who miss their first season due to injury rarely have long-term success in the NFL.

But... watching him out there on Sunday, damn... my hopes are back up. I just have my fingers crossed that he stays healthy.

Anyone been able to watch him closely the last couple of games?

I've been hammered drunk after the Muni Lot.

He was really good against the Texans, but I believe his biggest impact is allowing Ronnie Harrison to play as a linebacker and allowing them to play a big dime. It also allows for the Browns to be a little more deceptive in what they are doing in the middle of the field.

I was very impressed with how they mixed coverages against the Bears and were more aggressive in covering. The Browns also scouted really well and with all their defensive backs, we're effectively running routes for the receivers. I think Delpit and JOK have had a big part in shutting down TEs the past two games.

Congrats to Grant Delpit on his first career interception. Additionally, he was not held accountable for any of the receptions in coverage against Baltimore.

IMHO, he's ready to be the other starter alongside JJ3.

This will work itself out when we move on from Ronnie after the season I believe

Look, I've read a heck of a lot of negativity this season. I'm just suggesting that a source of so much negativity - pass defense - can be fixed with a shift towards the future.

You can see the snap counts here.

Should Delpit continue to see less than half the snaps? Do we need to keep seeing Ronnie screw up in zone? It's time to unleash Delpit, he looks ready to me.

Meanwhile Antoine Winfield Jr has been an elite player.

Just a fucking brutal, brutal miss with this pick. I hated it at the time and frankly am disgusted about it now.

One 2nd round pick at Safety could have changed the entire trajectory of this franchise. Not to mention Tampa Bay's. Kinda crazy to think about.

Sooo...if a guy is this bad, its *his* fault, not the scheme, right?

Both.

I think Delpit is dumb. He is a massive liability in coverage. He is playing incredibly poorly, and he's responsible for a lot of the mistakes he is making.

I also think that we can use him in different roles. He's actually looked really good blitzing or attacking specific gaps in run fits.

A good coaching environment identifies the things that young players do well, and asks them to do those things. Then they start to slowly add more responsibilities to the player's plate.

I haven't seen that with Delpit.
