2020 NFL Draft Thread - Day 2

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The point is he doesn't want to use any capital on upgrading RG and he clearly stated that.

At some point, we need to.

Whether he would be "mad" or not, that wasn't the point. That's you guys trying to take someone's figure of speech way too literally.
I am glad you did not take his post too literally. That would've been silly. Assuming somebody would be upset if the team did something because of a one-sentence post that they made. It would be crazy, right?

So maybe he won't be upset.

The point remains. Teller and Forbes will not cut it there long term and at some point we need to upgrade.

I want Logan Wilson more than literally anyone.

We are going BPA from the list @CBBI posted for essentially the rest of the draft. We may go outside of that, but that is what I am expecting us to do.

If the BPA is a guard, we will go guard, if there isn't a time when the BPA is a guard/interior OLine then we won't draft one. No one will be mad if we draft a guard, but all that was stated was we aren't going out of our way (like putting a ton of assets) into getting another guard.

I feel we are going S with 41, then LB and WR with our 3rd round picks. So if Wilson is still available in the 3rd I would have no issues if we drafted him. I want another LB in this draft and I am hoping today sometime we draft one. My mind is thinking S at 41 LB with our first 3rd and WR/Guard at our second 3rd then BPA with our last three picks.

You obviously cannot prove that Forbes or Teller "will not cut it there long term."

Forbes hasn't played a single snap in the NFL. Teller has been below average when paired next to a fairly poor RT in Hubbard. I'm certainly not investing big numbers/draft capital into the position, especially since Teller is not a glaring weakness like Safety, linebacker or 3rd WR.

Agreed. Based on what's currently on the board, it looks like the best value for the Browns should 100% be at safety at 41.

Since we do have two thirds, it wouldn't surprise me to use 74 and 115 to move into the back-end of the 2nd. We'd still have four picks in the top 100, but no 4th or 5th.

If the best player available in round 3 or 4 is a RG then I'm fine with them just taking one. Teller and Forbes are probably okay in the short term.

With that said at 41 I'm pretty much fully locked in on Delpit and possibly McKinney. I really want Delpit though.

I actually don't think we will move back into the second. We have too many spots to try and fill in to do that. I mean we have starters at most positions, but we have a lot of stop gaps so we need to acquire more picks not trade them for one pick. I just cannot see us leaving today without getting two defensive players (S and LB) and at least one offensive guy (WR or G).

We don't actually know the board and I know the FO seems to not be afraid to get their guy, but it would be very surprising to move up when we need players and not any extra draft picks.

Listen I've been pushing the "upgrade G" as much as anyone. But yes, I'd LOVE to have either one of those guys at 41. That's a slam dunk.

36 Giants Baun
37 Pats Kmet
38 Panthers Fulton
39 Miami Swift
40 Houston Uche
41 Cle McKinney

74 Cle Malik Harrison

97 Cle Duvernay

If none of Ezra Cleveland, Josh Jones, Lucas Niang go in the first 10 picks of the second round, I'll be shocked.

I don’t think there’s a guard worth taking at 41, but I could see guard addressed in the 3rd or 4th potentially.

We don’t know how much or how little the Browns value Teller or Forbes since they’re both A. mostly unproven and B. players they inherited.

I wouldn't leave out Hubbard in the RG discussion, as he's played all over the line throughout his career and don't think it's a two-horse race between Forbes and Teller... Regardless, you can find interior lineman later in any draft and considering the Browns current roster status, I don't believe investing in one early is worthy or necessary.. With 4/5 starters locked in, and hopefully playing at a high level, the Browns can get away with a replacement level player i.e. what they have now for the next year..

I'm not sure if this article has been brought up, but it's a pretty intriguing look into what positions yield themselves best to immediate impact vs. what positions have the highest learning curve: ...

(TLDR version)

For first rounders--
Position300 snaps, 60+ grade500 snaps, 70+ gradeQualifying Draftees
QB68.8%6.3%16
RB77.8%33.3%9
WR60.0%20.0%15
TE66.7%0.0%6
OT53.8%46.2%13
IOL66.7%25.0%12
DI72.2%22.2%18
Edge75.0%20.8%24
LB54.5%18.2%11
CB73.7%36.8%19
S88.9%33.3%9

Historically, OTs have consistently been the most immediately productive position in the draft over the last 5 years...

For Day 2 positions--
Position300 snaps, 60+ grade500 snaps, 70+ gradeQualifying Draftees
QB14.3%0.0%11
RB50.0%15.4%26
WR53.3%20.0%45
TE50.0%10.0%20
OT32.0%12.0%25
IOL51.7%13.8%29
DI41.2%11.8%34
Edge28.3%2.2%46
LB39.3%7.1%28
CB37.5%6.3%48
S37.0%22.2%27

WR and S standout as positions that you can find on Day 2 with immediate contributions while EDGE, LB and CB are positions that historically have not been kind to immediate contributors..

I'll be interested to see if the Browns take this approach... For their benefit, not only does the draft shape up well to draft a WR and S, but those are also higher profile needs and ones I'd like to see them address on Day 2..
