2020 NFL OFF-SEASON THREAD

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He'll be fine.

Doesn't live in a country where he'll face accountability for his actions, given his great personal wealth and political protection.

Didn't go down from literally stealing from the United States treasury, he ain't going down for this either. He'll just disappear from public life for a while and let the son run the show.

You dont think the NFL is going to care about his racist remarks?

Oh of course they will at least pretend to care, its public now.

He's already stepped down from his role with the team to serve his President, so if he doesn't return I wouldn't be surprised.

But his brother and son will still own and run the team with his money, if needed. They won't force him to sell, by any means.

Given the ownership structure across the NFL, almost impossible to see Jerry Jones and company forcing him out for a violation of his first amendment right to be racist.

Watching powerful, entitled, old white people get exposed for the racist, sexist, and overall terrible people they are is always great. It's like they are desperately hanging on to their ancient beliefs. Can't wait till these fuckers age out. PS, I'm white.

NFL-wise, I see zero actually happening to the Jets because of this, and I'm not sure what you can do other than ban him from "technically" running any part of the franchise. His family is getting the team, regardless of what you do to him.

I always wonder how these convos or meetings are never recorded.
Why would those meetings be recorded? Other than someone trying to extort the guy, there isn't much of a reason to record him in casual conversation or in a meeting. Plus in some states it's illegal to record someone without their consent. NY is not one of those states but there are many states where recording someone without their permission is a crime.

I get what @JDailey23 is saying. If my boss had a pattern of verbal sexual assault, damn the law I'd try to record him doing it. Then I'd extort him and quit. People like Johnson, with money and power, only take notice when money is at stake. If he didn't want to be recorded, he shouldn't be breaking the law.

In this case, there seems to be so many witnesses/victims that it won't matter.

I'd imagine if Johnson truly wants to fight this, he'll claim victimhood and drum up the type of support that doesn't really care if there is video, audio or witness testimony. It has been a pretty viable plan for others if deployed correctly and supported by the right "influencers."

From a PR perspective, he can take the path of denying that he ever said it, while also drumming up support for this as a First Amendment issue to muddy the waters similar to other current strategies used by those "affected" by the change culture.

Yes. I’m not acting like it didn’t happen.
It probably did, it just seems to be the “norm” now. If there was a pattern of this and these people were offended or whatever, recording only seems logical.

Not if they want to keep their job (if they're employees) and have their livelihood implode at the hands of a powerful, politically connected racist/misogynist who clearly doesn't have a great feel for morality.

I assumed they were not employed through Woody or even worked with him anymore. Also. With the cancel culture and the war on the rich, powerful, conservative White man, I highly doubt they would face MORE blow back than what that are getting, if any, now.
I’m fact, having them on record would only further their point in my eyes. (Mine for example)

Accountability is tougher for some than others.

Deleted some comments. Take it to the political side, or DM's.

Moving along.

Was talking with a buddy that wondered how long until we just copy the Soccer model and call teams "Cleveland FC" for football club. Is that why they do it?

I feel like this was discussed in the past, with some guy creating every logo as a Soccer FC style crest.

I think its dope, tbh.

Mascots are largely juvenile and nonsensical.

Why they're still so central to the team's structure is largely predicated on their dated marketing practices, and really serve as little else than a novelty which can and should still exist in a diminished capacity (community marketing, kids/family sections, etc). ManU is still the Red Devils, but its secondary to the majesty, pomp and circumstance of the ManU title.

With such vast and memorable history of most of these NFL/MLB teams, their value is in the CITY itself and the surrounding community, similar to the success the Cavs had in "The Land" marketing throughout the second tenure of LeBron.

Wish more teams would adjust that to recognize the greater value.
