2020 Off-Season Rumors/News

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Once again, that’s not ace money.

And MadBum used to be better than Wheeler. Now they’re roughly equals, or...not.

Given that Wheeler was easily more valuable in 2019.

23.6 M per is top 15 AAV (Currently 9th will be 11th after Cole and Strasburg sign) for a pitcher currently. That makes it ace money. Its a contract that would have dragged on a mid market team sooner rather then later. As for Madison I would wanna see him on a contender before we write him off as being worse then Wheeler. Dude gave no shits last year in SF.

Bumgarner's FIP has been 3.9+ for the past three seasons, and he's missed two of them pretty heavily due to injury. Already has a lot of miles on his arm before age 30 too.

That said, the Astros will probably scoop him up and he'll win Triple Crown next year.

Injuries and lack of motivation likely led to Bumgarners decline in SF. They won a few ships he got his rings and the team around him went to shit quick. I think it will be interesting to see him on a contender again. Might get some of his intensity back.

Also age wise he's only 8 months or so older then Wheeler.

Always what you want to hear from a guy you’re going to give millions to.

Going from pitching in meaningful games your entire career to bottom of the barrel can mess you up mentally. Verlander is a good example. Once Tigers got bad he started to decline goes to Astros and somehow goes back to top of the rotation pitcher. Right or wrong and wether he did it purposefully or subconsciously losing can effect players who were used to playing in games that counted. The injuries in 17 and 18 also could have had an effect on him mentally. I still think he can pitch and will be a good investment for a team.

Interesting move by both sides..

Bundy gives rotation arm to needy Angels.
O's walk away with 4 arms for bullpen/ pitching staff down the road..

Have to believe Angels not done adding to its staff but it will be interesting if Mickey C will have any success helping out Dylan Bundy..

In a way I almost feel they overpaid for Bundy, but at the same time none of the other prospects outside of Isaac has even put in innings in minor league ball. Orioles lost nothing by making this move at the end of the day. I don’t know, I wouldn’t have paid that much for him.

In case others missed it, the competitive balance picks have been set..
Tribe with pick #7 aka #37 overall in the 2020 draft..

to be honest I will worry about this when it comes closer to draft time. I don’t think we will sign anyone of significance to be honest so I will pay attention when signing is done

I could be mistaken, but IF the Tribe signs a player that declined a QO (I know, I know its unlikely) the pick they would relinquish would be the Tribe 2nd round pick.

By having the Comp A pick the Tribe gets another pick inside the top 40 and more importantly - more bonus pool for the draft...

Guess you look at it differently. He's an average pitcher getting ace money. That would kill a midmarket financially. It easily would have set the Twins back. Whitesox may have been able to take the financial hit though. Apparently both teams are in a bidding war for Bumgarner who is better then Wheeler.
If he’s only average, then how many good pitchers do you think there are?

There are maybe 30 pitchers better than Wheeler.

Wheeler has never produced as a top two pitcher. You can say he has good "Stuff" and upside but once your 29 and your still talking about upside and not production yeah I'm gonna pass. Signing injury prone players known for "Stuff" and not production how has that worked out for teams in the past?

He was a top 30 pitcher in the league each of the past two seasons. So, again I ask, how many "good" pitchers do you think there are? Only 20 or so?

Because if you're arguing he's not a top 20 pitcher, I agree. If you're saying he's not top 40, you're out of your mind.
