on the serious side...

Truthfully sometime in late April or Early May depending on when he starts his rehab. Could be sooner, but that is the likely time period to expect him back.

So essentially that means we are starting the season with the rotation of Bieber, Carrasco, Plesac, Civale and Plutko on paper.

And on a non-serious note...

Then good sir why do you like it so much? Sounds like you are jealous lol
Young staff and a guy coming back from leukemia. Gonna be a rough start potentially.

last year should have been way tougher and we succeeded so I think we will be fine in the end. Also guys like Scott, Morris, Morgan etc should be pretty much ready for the pros and a healthy McKenzie could always be a factor as well. Our depth is probably better than any other organization in MLB when it comes to starting pitching.

I agree that losing Clevinger for the next several weeks, while not ideal, shouldn't have a huge effect.

Lest we forget, Clev might not miss much/any time. If he comes back at the early end of the 6-8 week timeframe, he's there for the start of the regular season. Maybe he misses a start, or maybe they jigger the rotation a touch (e.g., Bieber can start the opener on 3/26, then they have a day off, then Clev can start 3/28 or 3/29).

If he does miss a few starts, the Indians do have plenty of arms behind him. Plutko, Moss, Logan Allen ... any of them should be able to pick up the slack until Clev returns. (I wouldn't count on McKenzie; let's just see him start the season healthy, without adding the stress of a major league debut.) The only concern I have there is that the Indians have only two days off the first few weeks of the season. Fortunately, the schedule-makers brilliantly decided to have the Indians play the first few weeks exclusively in northern cities, so the Tribe could get extra days off thanks to rain (or snow).

I suspect that by June, we will have long since forgotten about this story.

The worst thing this team can do is rush him back.

Make sure he’s fully extended out and ready to roll before just throwing him in there and hoping he finds the touch along the way. Too early in the season to rush someone back.

@AllforOne is right, Allen and Plutko have to pick up the slack for a few starts. Hopefully one of them emerges as a legitimate option in the long term, it’s a hell of an opportunity for both.

I'd love to see Logan Allen have a monster spring and seize the opportunity.

I'm not a huge fan of Plesac, so it'd be nice to have a guy waiting in the wings that I have confidence in.
Civale has way better stuff than Plesac does. FIP for Plesac essentially said he was very lucky at times. Plesac has the right mental makeup for a big league pitcher, there is no doubt, but for him to stay a starter, he has to develop his secondary pitches a lot more. If he doesnt he will end up a McAllister at the end of the day since he does have a good fastball.
