2020 Off-Season Rumors/News

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There's a good chance that Lindor stays here throughout his current contract, we make a QO, he declines and becomes a FA. There is nothing set in stone that he will for sure be traded. You just have to look at someone like Brantley to see the Indians do not trade all players they know they can not resign.
Hi are you Zack Meisel?

I do not necessarily disagree, but I do not think this is necessarily a great example to point in comparison to Lindor

I do not think many teams out there would have been willing to give up an appealing enough package + pay Brantley $12m after he missed 250+ games over the previous 2 seasons. Also, the Indians were also bringing back the large majority of their roster that made the World Series in '16 and looked like the best team in baseball in the 2nd half of '17. It made more sense to keep their chips in the middle of the table with that roster then, in my opinion, than it does now.

How does one reasonably expect Cole to perform from age 35-39 at $180M
Combo of pluck, guile, garbage cans, and different grips to maintain his spin rates.

There is too much smoke out there about him being dealt, especially since the Indians keep things so close to the vest. Something had to have happened in the exit interview or something (even a quiet request by him) that changed things. Could be the team knows he is going to arbitration and wants to avoid an ugly situation- which is why the team, for many years, did every thing they could to avoid going to arbitration with their players. Point is, if we are hearing this much chatter then the team must be looking to make a move with him.

The Indians organization is notoriously tight-lipped about potential trades and signings. The fact that there are rumors floating at all makes it sounds like nothing will happen.

Quite the contrary, I think the Indians are listening to a lot of teams since they need to, and with Lindor being such a good player a lot of teams are making offers, but at the same time its really the other teams and the media talking about Lindor and not the Indians themselves since the FO is saying over and over again, we listen on everyone, but we aren't trading Lindor and they seem to stay to their word.

Yankees will surely decline Stanton's 2028 option and Cole's yearly salary likely won't be uniform.

Also, I know the Marlins ate $30m of Stanton's remaining salary

David Fletcher and Brandon Marsh for Kluber. Get off your hands, Ferry. Mickey Callaway is their pitching coach now, so he may end up pounding the table to bring Kluber there.

Ah, but what are the 'rumors?' They are baseball writers speculating where a good landing spot for Lindor could be if the Indians trade him.

Compare this to last year: the FO says they will be moving veterans to reduce payroll, get younger, and add additional talent.

Indians have never been afraid to go to arbitration. Just because they were able to sign players before arbitration just means both sides agreed to the terms. Look at Bauer last year, they were happy to go to arbitration and accepted the results.

The Indians will only move Lindor if they get blown away.

White Sox traded their #10 prospect (per BA) to the Rangers for Nomar Mazara

Mazara seemed like a breakout candidate after his first year in the league, but has mostly plateaued in his ensuing 3 seasons. Still will only be 24 by opening day though.

A jump is always possible, especially at his age, but his consistent mediocrity across four seasons is crazy.

BA% has ranged from .253 to .268
OBP% has ranged from .317 to .323
HR have ranged from 19 to 20
wRC+ has ranged from 87 to 95
fWAR has ranged from -0.3 to 0.9
