2020 Off-Season Rumors/News

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Leon isn’t great, but he’s probably better than Plawecki overall. Solid type of guy to have as a backup catcher.
He isnt better based on numbers. A better ptich framer, but somehow a worse bat, older, and probably more expensive. Plawecki was weak at the plate- a 625 OPS- but Leon has been in the 500s 2 straight years and is 30. I understand moving on from Kevin but I don't see this as an upgrade. Is Plawecki up for arbitration or something?

Leon is a strange move by the Indians especially since we have a good catching core at the end of the day. I mean this isn’t going to hurt us any, but I am still expecting another move here soon getting another bullpen arm that can help Hand out (at least I am hoping so)

Also Moose went to the Reds on a 4 year pact, too bad we couldn’t have gotten him here since he is a solid player, but a bit surprising to see him get that kind of deal in a way.

BA lists him with 2020 Contract Status: 1st-Year Arb Eligible

Leon is better suited for a backup role, where they can reasonably expect his offensive numbers to improve.

Where, again, he's an elite pitch framer who will play 1-2 times per week.

It allows them to be flexible.

@Derek as well

What do you expect them to do with Plawecki and Haase going into 2020 now? I know we don’t have a ton of catching depth in the upper minors so we will be inviting a couple veterans into camp. Do you think we could find a way to get Plawecki to our AAA team since I am pretty sure he is out of options?

The way there has been a run on catching so far, it might be beneficial to hold onto all 4 catchers going to the winter meetings.
Always a chance one of KevinP or Sandy Leon could be used as a deal sweetener or one of the catcher group gets seriously hurt during spring training...

EDIT (Post 8 pm Eastern on 12/2/19) Ok... Ok..... I was very wrong with this line of thinking....

Barring an injury mid-season, it's hard to see Haase have any sort of future on the major league roster time. The Indians definitely seem to value defense when it comes to catchers, and that's not exactly Haase's strong suit. In fact, his power is his only real strong suit and he is swinging and missing more than ever at age 27.

Indians are about to cash in on all that Bitcoin

Add Travis Shaw to the list as well
