I hope Kip makes the squad, but this is just a bizarre sight to behold. The guy was our second baseman for nearly an entire decade.
Kip, Brantley, Lonnie, Kluber... I think we're really gonna look back on this previous generation of Indians fondly.

They're all always welcome home in my book.

Yeah, Brantley’s approach at the plate is one of my favorite things I’ve ever witnessed as an Indians fan. Guy’s discipline and patience just made every appearance so fucking compelling.

It’s unfortunate he felt the organization mishandled his medical affairs; hopefully he moves past it and the resentment some day.

We were drafting well and we were able to capitalize/develop guys we got in trades. That crew to me ranks with the 90s crew cause of all the wins and all of them were likable by the fans.

Right now on the current roster we only have 3 free agents and when we can avoid signing free agents then it really shows we are running the organization well! We also have a really good crew on paper in a few years so we may have a run of winning that lasts for a long time!

It's interesting to look around the league and pick out which teams would have $300m+ to guarantee to Lindor should he hit free agency

I think the primary competition would be the Mets, Braves, Giants, Red Sox, maybe the White Sox. I don't think the other heavy hitters out there could afford to sign Lindor and still have hopes of retaining their own superstars without paying outrageous taxes.

Sox already have Bogaerts and Devers on the left side and balked at spending $300 million on Betts already. Have to imagine they'd sit this one out.

Also, there are some other big name players that will be free agent position players in the same summer as Lindor: Carlos Correa, Javy Baez, Kris Bryant, Corey Seager, and Trevor Story

I imagine the Astros will re-sign Correa and the Cubs will do whatever they can to re-sign Baez. I'm not sure if the Rockies can afford to pay Story with some of the deals they've given out. Maybe if they trade Arenado, which would theoretically limit another potential Lindor suitor. I'm not sure what the Dodgers plan is with Seager, but I'm not sure if they'll be able to afford him should they sign Betts. Bryant surely will want to sign elsewhere with his grievances with the Cubs.

I would have said the Mets were a strong possibility if the sale to Cohn had gone through, but I just can’t see the Wilpons dishing out the type of dough that it will take to sign Frankie.

I know Mets fans hate the Wilpons for not spending. I get it to the extent that they're this giant market, but at the same time they typically rank in the Top 8 or so in payroll and are always active in free agency. Maybe not so much for the mega stars, but we see how that typically doesn't work out well for teams.

Edit- Was a bit mistaken. They've ranked in the Top 12 or so in the last 4 years

If Brantley knew/suspected the Astros were cheating and then went there, my opinion on him would change significantly. And it seems like the Indians knew but didn't have evidence.

To me Frankie comes down to years on the contract. I'm fine going 8, which would take him through age 36. But 10? Can't do it.

Sad to see him go, but that’s gotta be a great feeling for him, sadness towards leaving the Indians aside. He gets to suit up for the team he grew up rooting for. I really hope he makes the squad and blows expectations out of the water.

So long as Dirtbag plays well in games vs MKE..
It will warm my heart (even if the Cubs win)..

Bimbo what length we talking here? Because I view it as a 0% chance they do 10/300. I could maybe see something shorter term for more per year if I really squint my eyes (maybe a 0.03% chance)

I’d imagine 8 is the baseline in negotiations.

When I hear the word “creativity” being thrown around by a party involved in the negotiations I immediately think of deferrals, front loaded contracts, mutual options, vesting options.

IMO, length won’t matter. 6 years, 8 years, 10 years, that number won’t be the make or break for Frankie’s side. All comes down to the guaranteed figure. If the Indians can be creative and get in the ballpark of what Frankie and his team want as a guaranteed figure, a deal will get done. The caveats to get us there are yet to be seen, but there will have to be a few of them.

But yes, 0% chance the Indians give him a fully guaranteed straight forward 10/300 with no options, no deferrals, no structuring of the deal, etc.

He's playing this season at age 26. A 10 year deal takes him through his age 35 season. No way I can see him going shorter than that.
