2020 Off-Season Rumors/News

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The MLB is going to look like shit if they can’t come to terms to play while every other major sports organizations around the world are playing/preparing to play.
I think they already look like shit. As soon as it became about the money weeks ago it started to smell, and it's getting worse daily.

Looking at what we know today, how likely is it that we have MLB games in 2020?
I suppose I am an optimist, but I still believe it is likely (maybe 75%).

One thing's for certain. This pissing match can only go on for so long. If they want to start around July 4th, July 2nd is exactly 5 weeks from today. If ST 2.0 were to take 3 weeks, that leaves them somewhere around a week and a half to get the plan done and up and running considering travel. I'm sure they know this. I guess we'll all know sometime around next weekend. Especially when you consider the players said they want more games. That's even compressing the window even tighter. Get. It. Done.

Why is MLB the only sport that's not even close to reaching any agreement? All the warts of MLB are bubbling to the top. No salary cap, big markets vs. small markets, hyper-rich FA players, hyper-poor minor leagers. Scott Boras.

Well, the NBA/NHL played most of their seasons with fans in the stands, so everybody still made their nut even if it wasn't as much as usual.

The NFL season is still a ways off. I'm curious if there will be any issues there if/when they don't have fans in the stands.

I dunno. It was MLB and the MLBPA that couldn't come to an agreement in 1994, and the result was a strike shortened season with no playoffs. That result didn't benefit either side financially...but it happened anyway.

And now this. Gonna happen again. F off MLB.

Would teams consider paying/utilizing minor league players for a half season?

I'd like to see some baseball myself.

What a terrible year for mid level college players entering the draft.

First, a shortened draft.
Then, probably no minor league season at all.
Now, maybe no MLB.

Long shots for sure, but there goes hundreds of dreams.....

I really like that idea. If an individual player doesn't want to play for less money...then he doesn't have to play. But let the rest play if they wish. I would offer that as owners, plus contingent revenue sharing because owners won't have to pay for the more expensive players who sit out. Otherwise, it would be possible for owners to make a windfall if expensive players sat out disproportionately.
I agree that this would make a fine solution. Let the megastars sit if they feel the risks will outweigh the pay they'll receive. It would allow those lesser paid players to get a salary bump and baseball to be played this summer. There is no reason for owners to push for games that will cost them more money than not playing. I suspect even the Trouts and Scherzers would cave and play if this type of agreement was made. The loss of a season could have more of an impact on a player's earning potential than the possible injury factor. And $6M is better than nothing, at least in my world.
