2020 Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Do you realize what it would take to get rid of Kevin and Andre? (aka: unless you want to mortgage the future and get rid of draft picks in a market where we can't sign players - we're stuck with them.)
I know that my point is we shouldn't have re-signed Love in 2018 or traded for Drummond last year if we wanted to commit toa the long-term process a rebuild entails. Having those two contracts on the books is counterproductive to getting the assets you need for a rebuild to be successful.

Yes. We know. Just be glad we're rid of Thompson.

I'm not complaining about taking Drummond on for a 2nd rounder after seeing the contracts teams handed out over the past 24 hours. Saved us from ourselves. If Pistons still had Drummond they wouldn't have just spent tons of money on Jerami Grant (Good player but not worth 20 M per) or Plumlee. Or traded for Delon Wrights garbage deal. Is it ideal that we have Drummond? No but he's not an issue he's a short term deal not a long term anchor. I agree on KLove extending him was moronic.

Drummond and Love aren't standing in the way in terms of minutes of holding anyone back.

This is because we have zero in the way of prospects at either the PF or C positions after we gave up on Zizic unless you count Jordan Bell I guess. I'm not sure that's a good thing.

Don't really get why everyone see Bell as a PF not a C, he protects the rim and cant shoot to me that is a Center

PF and Center are positions that are evolving currently in the NBA. I don't mind that the organization has held off investing draft picks in those positions just yet. PFs look like they will become just big wing players. I think there are real questions of what type of players will be centers in the future. Also the team will need to find an identity of what style they will play and how much 3 pt shooting we will need from our bigs.

If that's the case what was the point of re-signing Kevin, and trading for Drummond? Neither are going to pieces long term, and both give us enough salary where we can't really afford to take on contracts to gain assets.
Well we signed love before covid. I am not really upset we have love. He is productive. Salary goes down yearly. Limit his mind. Keep him healthy and he is fine
Drummond we got for free and a 28 million expiring will get us something at the deadline

I’m seeing a lot of negativity on these boards. People are gonna have to be patient. I think Gilbert realizes fans aren’t likely to be in the arena this year,
revenues are going to be down, and there’s a lot of uncertainty. It makes sense to continue with the rebuild and proceed cautiously & expeditiously. On the horizon is a loaded draft class in 2021 as well as a very strong free agent class.

This year is going to be all about development and, if that puts us in position for another top draft pick & possible franchise player, so be it. This year is going to have ups and downs. There will be times the Cavs look like playoff contenders and other times they look horrible- it’s just what happens with young clubs. They’re on the right path and have some critical culture pieces in place.

I am thinking that Okoro is progress in the rebuild. KPJ was progress. Sexton, despite the skepticism, was progress. I am not confident Garland was progress..

Where is Critical Mass? Sexton, Nance, Love and Drummond all have PER above 15.. Bell is our next highest PER, followed By KPJ..

To me, our lack of movement during free agency tells me that despite the "win now" rumor, we are just fine semi tanking for another high pick in 2021.. If Okoro (or Windler for that matter) are lightning in a bottle, then we have a champagne problem. The real goal in drafting so far has been to accumulate assets and establish a blue collar culture.

I think the lack of free agency activity is mostly because no one with other options wants to play for Cleveland right now. The team is bad and the weather is cold. Eventually in the game of musical chairs, the Cavs will be the only choice but the quality will reflect that.

Hopefully Giles is still sitting around by then. Not sure if there are any other young big prospects out there. We can pray we find the next Christian Wood I guess

Giles to Blazers on a 1 year deal. Guess we riding with Bell as backup C this season.

Ah well. Bell did look like the next Draymond a few years ago right?

So what’s gonna happen with Sexton after this season? We’re gonna have to max him right? Ugh.
