2020 Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There should be a “super duper max” where you can pay any individual player an unlimited amount of money but only a certain percent counts against the cap. Maybe some of these small markets could keep a star.
Many small clubs would still likely break even or lose money. While we were an extreme, I remember Dan would owe a significant amount of money due to the tax during our Finals runs. All while GSW was still making a profit hand over fist. I know that is tax related & repeater tax related, but it just shows how much luxury boxes,TV, & local media deals prop up these teams. Many small markets wont get the local revenue a team in California would get.

Anyone think the Cavs will do anything else after the 5th pick.

I'm not sure, but I think we have to start talking about Consolidation. We are suddenly a very deep team unless you think that

I saw someone point this out on Twitter, and I have been thinking about depth.

Garland
Sexton
Cedi
Love
Drummond

These guys are guaranteed minutes, then you have

Porter
Nance
Top 5 pick this year
Jordan Bell
Exum
Wade
and Mckinnie

That doesn't include
TT or Delly, both of whom I would like to have back.

We know a 10 man rotation is about the biggest you can run effectively. Yes, we have some injury prone guys, but even then I don't really have anyone that is "clearly not an NBA player". Bell and McKinnie are not great or high upside guys most likely, but have proven enough to get some minutes. I'd like to get Wade minutes. He rebounds, defends, and can shoot the ball. He's a stretch big, so we have 3 of those if you count Nance. He is also there if Love doesn't play back to backs or is out for significant time.

So, we have a lot of depth, but it is mostly guys that can be 7th and 8th men. Top end talent is still nebulous. The thing we lack is a star wing, and a vet backup PG. PG depth is probably the weakest. I doubt we can get a star wing by trading these scraps, but a vet PG or re-signing Delly is doable.

Talking about Bickerstaff at the 15:56 mark

Cliffnotes

1. Cavs ran more pick and roll after Beilein resigned.

2. KPJ will play 1-3 this coming season.

3. Beilein was hell bent putting his system instead of being flexible.

4. JB listens to the players and values their input.

5.JB runs a drop coverage scheme on defense similar to what the Bucks run.

6. Gottlieb watched alot of tape of the Heat,Nuggets and Bucks on defense/offense.Trying to emulate them in some way.

7. The Cavs were 9th under Bickerstaff(in those 11 games) on cut plays on offense vs Beilein.

After they talked about Bickerstaff, they talked about Koby Altman.

If,we manage to keep our pick,do you think we'll trade someone like Cedi. Especially, if we get Okoro. I mean the SF position will be crowded with Windler,Cedi,Porter,Okoro(if we draft him)and Exum.

Nance and Cedi are both guys that would have value to a team today, and it's possible to get something for them that would help us tomorrow if the other team can't wait.

I think it is rough because i would like to keep both of them, but you can easily see Cedi as the odd man out if Okoro comes to the team and is really good. If they draft Avdija, how can they justify having Cedi and Windler when both need minutes?

I rather keep Nance than Cedi.Atleast, with Nance we might need him due to Love getting hurt all the time.

If Boston want to give us Hayward’s shit contract they can give up a lot more than pick 14. He’s effectively capping them out of being a legit contender so they can keep him until a real good offer comes our way

He is an expiring like Drummond, so it isn't like Wiggins where you are stuck with him for 2 more years.

Interestingly, if Cedi were to improve as much as Nance has since Cedi's age, I think he would be better than Nance overall. Cedi struggles with inconsistency, but hes great for his draft slot, and he really needs incremental changes in his play to be really good.

A little better handling, a little better finishing, a little better shooter, and a little stronger on D, and he is a solid starter. A good assessment of Windler will really tell us a lot.

You can definitely argue that Nance is the better guy to guard Giannis and Lebron and the other big wings. That will be harder to get than what Cedi brings.

Yes but it’s still 35mil for a bad player that they will pretty much have an impossible time trading. They have a bad set up with contracts for trades, lots of big or super cheap deals which makes it hard to move

I would do Pick 14 + Grant Williams + cheaper expiring deals or tell them to have fun finding another team to take on their shit trades

Langford - don’t think he should have gone in the first round last year, 6’4 and can’t shoot

Hayward - way overpaid, hard to move, I believe in the past has said he didn’t want to play in Cleveland so would just be a 1 year rental

Smart - the only good player that works but obviously they wouldn’t trade him

Yeah for sure. I just meant I think you should get a lottery pick for taking on Wiggins who isn't useful, but something like Langford would make sense from Boston.

I wouldn't write off Langford, he had a thumb injury in college and played thru that. He has just had wrist surgery. He wasn't a prospect that was going to just jump into the NBA and play well. It just shows how hard it is to develop players on a contending team. He played 32 games averaging 11 minutes.

He would have much more opportunities on the Cavs. I think #14 would be the thing of true value and could open up other possible draft day trades. #5 and #14 might be able to get us the #1 or #2 draft pick this year.

I'd also be down for Grant Williams instead of Langford.
