2020 Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well said JBB. Like it or not, most of these kids, while supremely talented, are very young, and often times very immature, when they enter the NBA. Many of them have had some rough upbringings and then are raised up through the AAU circuits, where the most talented kids are catered to and told how great they are. The Cavaliers are trying to raise them to be productive professionals, but also solid, responsible members of society. That’s why having some stable veteran influences is so critical.
Exactly.

The AAU pint is valid for pretty much most American born players in the NBA at this point

About the “rough upbringing” though...

On the Cavs roster, it’s mostly the opposite:

Sexton, Garland, Okoro, McGee, TT(when he was here), Love, Nance, Exum, and Delly come from middle to upper class two parent families.

Of the main Cavs rotation, the only player who had a rough upbringing was KPJ

The Cavs are choir boys with the exception of Dotson & Porter. Kevin is in a great spot here.

Glad he is working on D. Maybe he can take a slight dip in minutes to open up for bench guys like Windler and then expend some more energy on the defensive end.

Sexton tends to get better as the game goes on. I always wonder if he is exploiting weaknesses he sees or if he just has more juice at the end of games.

Fun Sexton facts from last season:

Pre-All-Star (54 games): 46.0% shooting, 36.5% on 3's, 2.7 assists, 3.8 free throw attempts per game, 19.8 points.
Post-All-Star (11 games): 52.8% shooting, 43.1% on 3's, 4.2 assists, 5.5 free throw attempts per game, 25.5 points.

50/40/90 is going to be very difficult, but it's not ridiculous if he picks up where he left off last year. If his added strength makes him a better defender he'll be one of the better guards in the Association.

A lot of the guys who make that club are good passers and it means they don't take a lot of bad shots, which is why they have such good efficiency.

What was his ft% with those splits? 90% from the line is good and obv helps your efficiency, but if he can be in the high 80's that is great.

Offensively, if he can keep those assists up and reduce his turnovers, that would be great and he and Garland could work out, but yeah it's his defensive ability guarding bigger guys that is going to make or break that duo. I hope Okoro can help him there and is as good as advertised. He was guarding NBA sized forwards at times in college and holding his ground.

Not looking into splits, but he's an 84% FT shooter for his career.
