2020 Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Although, Wins are so precious now with the shortened season that teams might not want to risk that, especially against a team that plays really hard, which I think the Cavs will surely try to do every night.

It's really tough. Like I feel like this team can be pretty good, and I so want to enjoy this season; but I also know that we need another pick in this strong draft. The Cavs will have to think of ways to make this team competitive while at the same time lose the required amount of games to be in the bottom 3-5.

I prefer they make the 10th seed and lose a close game and win the Draft. I don't care if they are not bottom of the barrel. In fact, if they are, then even a top 5 pick won't save us. We need growth and winning from the young guys.

Tricky balancing act. One thing that might bring you some solace is that I think Kevin Love is totally tradeable if this team overachieves. If the Cavs are suddenly competitive, they will trade Kevin and Drummond most likely and then you are starting Mcgee and Nance, which while is ok is definitely a downgrade.

What would you do if the Cavs were actually looking competitive because Garland and Windler make a big diference , Drummond and Love are playing like they are capable of, and even Okoro looks good while Sexton and Nance do as they do?

Would it be a betrayal to trade away the Front court at the deadline if they are in the 8th position and they have been killing it? What does that say about your commitment to winning? How does that help all the young guys take the next step?

I hope i am putting the cart before the horse here

I am sort of excited by passing from every position. Even Drummond is a better passer than Tristan. Windler and Okoro both bring passing ability, and I have my fingers crossed for growth or even just "fitting in" passing from Garland and Sexton.

I think Sexton and Garland will improve their assist numbers. If,Sexton can be around 5 or 6 while Garland can be around 8 or 9 that's a win.

Bickerstaff been preaching defense and ball movement throughout training camp.

Love the optimism but 8-9 is so many. Tare Young was 2nd last year with 9.4 apg. I will be happy if Garland gives us 7 assists per 36 and Colin gets his number to 5. Its the assist % that is really scare with Colin who passes closer to the average 4 than the worst 1.

Argh, I don't know. But it's not totally unrealistic. I guess you have to go with trying to win if you are in a competitive spot in the playoffs hunt? otherwise, it's like a blatant act of disrespect towards the players that put in the work and made strides.

Though with the crazy contracts that I see today, if we want to maximize the ceiling of this team in the next few years, getting a cost friendly top 5 pick must be the way to go? but if you get there by artificially lowering the win total of this team and as a result hurting the growth of the team as well as the individual players, then perhaps it ain't worth it.

That is why getting pick swaps and more picks from other teams is usually the way to go if you want to build a winning team and culture. This will have to be a priority. We still have a chance to do that even though we are a bit late.

The flip side is that if we really have good young core pieces that can play on a playoff team, then we probably have the assets to trade for another star.

hearing it’s down to cedi or windler to start at sf

at least at first, okoro will come off the bench

Still a bit confused why Porter can’t practice. His legal situation will take a while to get resolved. Usually guys just keep playing then deal with it when their day in court comes. Not sure I understand the need to keep him out of camp. Probably a lot more harm then good the longer they keep him away.

It sounds like Bickerstaff is not going to lose any sleep over the "tank for a higher pick or try to win them all" conundrum. He thinks they can steal an extra 4-5 wins just on more talented teams not being willing to match the Cavs toughness and intensity.
