2020 Series #16 Indians @ Cubs, Sep. 15-16

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How do you figure?

The current rotation has 3 25 yr olds and a 23 yr old. Allen is 23. Quantrill is 25. Not only is there quality SP depth, it's young and affordable for the next few seasons. This depth is likely to increase with additions from trades. It's almost an embarrassment of riches much in the same way the White Sox are positionally.

The BP will have Karinchak, Clase, Maton, Wittgren, Hill, and Gose to name a few. Those are potent BP arms. They'll be able to afford to sign another good arm if they so desire.

Lindor will be traded this off season. The return will be significant IMO. I believe Ramirez could also be traded and the return will also be significant IMO. Moving both should at the very least add 4 high upside, ready players.

There is plenty of quality prospect depth to deal from as well.

Looking ahead to next season, the SP and BP should be among the league's best. Adding young, affordable, ready talent should only help this season's poor offensive performance. Can it get any worse? The Indians are literally one of the worst offensive teams in baseball at the moment.

CA and MC have positioned this organization well to remain competitive over the next several seasons.

When's the last time this organization lost eight in a row? The Acta Era?

Tough times right now. Hope they can get back on track against the Tigers.

Agree Tribe is well-positioned for the near future but will this season’s collapse leave lasting scars on the young player’s’ psyche?

I think the future looks a lot better than the present.

There's no hope for this team until they seriously address their offensive woes.

They've got arguably the best pitching staff and pitcher in baseball right now, and will probably have a top 5 staff for years to come, but they give them almost no run support.

Can't win games giving up three or less runs when you're only capable of scoring one. If this team is going to be a serious contender in the future, they need to have a consistent offense. They don't need to score a million runs a game, but three runs also shouldn't look like an insurmountable lead.

During the pregame talk by the announcers on the Tribe telecast, they talked a little about there being
discontent and factions on the club. They didn't go into details but the way the club is performing
on the field sure makes it seem like there is some bad mojo within the clubhouse.

Alomar is in over his head. The value of Francona has never been more obvious.

Two runs last night in 10 innings and one came thanks only to a wild pitch.

Reyes has five hits in his last 42 at-bats; 4 singles and a double. He has one RBI in those 42 at-bats. The Tribe is 3-9 in those games. Seven of those nine losses have been by one or two runs. Reyes' slump has been a huge factor in this collapse. One RBI in the last 12 games!!!

Santana is 5-for-27 with four RBI's during this losing streak and he's hitting cleanup. Naquin had the 4-for-4 game but in the other seven he's 3-for-18.

The 4-5-6 hitters in the batting order are all slumping at the same time and we're still getting zero offense from catcher and almost nothing from center and left field. Naylor is 2-for-17 during the losing streak with zero RBI's.

The only silver lining is the Indians are not getting blown out. Five of the eight losses have been by 1-2 runs and a couple of those were due to multiple defensive lapses. Last night we gave up a run on a bad relay to first by Chang who is normally not in the lineup. If Hernandez plays that run doesn't score and we win in 9 innings.

If the defense tightens up and our 4-7 hitters start to produce just a little we could get back to winning those close, low scoring games like before.

"Our pitching did a good job. Unfortunately we didn’t hit with men in scoring position today. It seems like when we hit, we don’t pitch well, and when we pitch well we don’t hit. You’ve just got to keep grinding, man. I don’t know what else to say.” - Sandy Alomar

Are the two factions those who don't want Sandy Leon to play and Sandy Leon?

Well i did say something is wrong with the leadership in the clubhouse with the players in another thread. There isn't that leader to get everyone to gel. It sucks since they have such potential as a roster.

Nice glass half empty take on the current situation. Over the previous 5 seasons this team has ranked 15, 2, 5, 6, 11 respectively. Sometimes happenings in baseball are difficult to explain. Like I've said a few times already, if you told me at the beginning of the season that this line up would have Lindor, Ramirez, Hernandez, Santana, Reyes, Naylor, and a healthy Naquin then I would have been extremely optimistic even if C and CF were below average offensive players. Continuing to perform offensively as the currently are will get them out of the playoffs in the first round. Should they start hitting like they are capable of then this team is dangerous. There is no way to know which team we'll have when the playoffs start. Baseball, like life has pleasant surprises and disappointments. Having said that, I'm not a firm believer in doing nothing.
