2020 Series #17 Indians @ Tigers, Sep17-20

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You lost me at penny-pinching owner.

I was a sympathetic to the Dolans for years because of how well-run the team was and the undeserved poor attendance during fantastic seasons, but imposing austerity measures in a period of contention is indefensible.

They need to find out what happened to Maton. In July and August his ERA was 0.79. In September it's now 11.57. He's gone from one of the best relievers in the league to the worst practically overnight. I think he lost the feel for his breaking ball.

After his first 12 appearances his line was 12.1 innings, 9 hits, 1 earned run, 0 walks, 16 K's and a 0.73 ERA. It doesn't get much better. But his last two weeks have been a disaster.

Santana is down to .190. In his first at-bat he worked the count to 3-2. Everybody knew he was getting a fastball down the middle. He fouled it off. Next pitch was another fastball down the middle. Easy two-hopper to the first baseman. Even when he knows he's getting a fastball and it's in the center of the zone he can't square it up. It's been the story of his season, along with the walks. But the pitchers have figured out it's stupid to walk him when he's an easy out just by throwing anything in the zone. When he manages to hit the ball hard like he did later in the game it's just a ground out into the shift.

The Indians were unlucky tonight as Lindor hit two line drives right at fielders and Jose hit a screamer right at the first baseman for a double play with two on and one out in the 8th. He also lined out to the pitcher. At least Reyes got two hits which I think matches his total for the last two weeks. Maybe he'll get going.

Three runs in the last 18 innings against the Tigers. This offense is so ugly outside of Ramirez. Naquin may never draw another walk in his career. He swings at practically every pitch he sees, especially low breaking balls. He can't hit a high fastball to save his life and by high I mean anywhere near the top of the zone or above it.

This was probably a meaningless game but it sucks to see one guy kick it away like that.

I keep waiting for Mercado to do something except chase bad pitches but so far that's about all he does at the plate.

Excellent analysis.

Maton's the latest version of Nick Goody and Tyler Olson - time to move along
Tyler Olson - I still can't believe his 2017 season where he pitched 20 innings in 30 appearances with an ERA of 0.00. Tito brought him in to face one or two left-handed batters and he was lethal. He couldn't throw hard but had a big sweeping hook that lefties couldn't hit. After that season he turned back into a pumpkin.

However, Maton has tremendous spin on his fastball (top 1% in baseball) and slider, so I think he has more to work with than Olson. He throws a lot harder for one thing. I'm hoping this is just a glitch but who knows?

It’s one thing for Santana to be having a HORRIBLE year offensively. It’s another to have Alomar keep putting him at cleanup every single game. How bad must Bobby Bradley and Jake Bauers be, for us to not even have given them a look at 1B for a single game. Los should have sat for a few games at least, just to see if a break would help. Maybe he needs to have his vision checked, his eyes seem to be bothering him - he fidgets with his eyes almost every at bat.

The most frustrating part of this season, apart from the horrid offense, has been the poor decision-making by the coaches. Bad pinch-hitting decisions, bad lineup decisions, etc. Tito is pretty bad at in-game decisions, but Alomar is far worse.

Got it, really easy to spend other people's money.

I pray to HaShem that they don’t give Alomar the permanent job next year.

Cookie fans two in a 14 pitch first inning.

Santanas first at bat looks exactly like his first 179.

Boyd is perfect thru two, and his ERA has dropped .26 points.

A bloop and a walk put Cookie in a corner, but he handles it with aplomb...finishing off with another K.
