2020 Series #18 White Sox @ Indians, Sep 21-24

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was just thinking about this. It makes no sense to seed 2nd place teams above wild card teams when you know there will be wild card teams with better records. Oh well its a weird year.
MLB's seeding/homefield policy since expanding the playoffs in 69 has been utter lunacy.

From 69-93, when there was only LCS and WS, homefield alternated by division league in all series. Having the best record did NOTHING tom give you homefield.

In 95, the first year of 3 divisions and WC, the Indians had the best record in baseball. In the ALDS, they faced Boston, who had the 2nd best record in the AL, and Boston had homefield. In the ALCS, they faced Seattle, who had the worst record of an AL playoff team, and Seattle had homefield.

I fail to understand how that could possibly happen repeatedly. You could literally have the Indians or Chicago have the 4th best record and be the 7 seed. Mindboggling.

Deshields did not have a great game in centerfield tonight. But he had an outstanding game last night and did the face plant last week.

On the whole, he's a lot better than tonight. Besides, if you dont want Mercado, who do you want? Those are the two options.

In re playoff scenarios....

I think the liveliest is that we host Chicago, the second that we play at Chicago.

To draw the Yankees would take some oddball circumstances, because NY loses tiebreakers with both us and Chicago.

For starters, the Yanks would have to sweep Miami while the Chisox got swept by the Cubs.

I'd love to play the Yankees at the Prog.

Cats. Be careful what you wish for.

What was the justification for being the road team throughout the playoffs? @col63onel
The same way the LCS and WS homefield rotated every year, so was homefield in the playoffs. Certain divisions automatically got homefield in certain years.

So, have Bauers and Zimmer just fallen off the face of the earth?

In both the Twins championship years (1987 and 1991), the AL West had home field all through the playoffs. In1987, I think the Twins had like 87 wins, but never lost at home in the playoffs.

In 2016, we had home field (sort of) in the WS, despite the Cubs having many more wins.

I have always been a fan of playing to win every night and let the seeding work itself out. With the 1st round of series being a 3 games series, I would want to have the hot team going into it. If we are able to win the next 3, we have a great shot at having home field.

Like I said, I see no reason to play Mercado since he's hitting .122. We have to play DeShields but I'm just saying I don't like his defense. He also breaks the wrong way at times like when he fell down on the bloop hit recently.

If we end up tied or better than the White Sox, which could happen since they have to face Darvish and Lester tonight and tomorrow, they would be the 3rd place team in the Central and would get the 7th seed. The Indians, assuming they win two or three against the Pirates, would be the best 2nd place team and would be seeded 4th with the Yankees 5th, Houston 6th (as the 2nd place team in the West), and Toronto 8th.

That doesn't seem oddball to me. It looks likely the Indians end up 4th, the Yankees 5th, and the Sox 7th. But we'll find out Sunday.
