2020 Series #18 White Sox @ Indians, Sep 21-24

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We may be looking at a Triple Crown of awards...Cy Young, MVP, Reliever of the Year.

The Tribe is playing their best baseball of the year and it's fun to watch. The White Sox finally got to Plesac after he held them to one run in 18 innings, but the bats and bullpen bailed him out.

Alomar looks like a genius after those three consecutive pinch hits. That happens about once a decade.

First run - Berto hits an opposite field double followed by Hernandez with an oppo ground rule double.

Game winning rally - Naylor an oppo single, Naquin an oppo single, Freeman single to center, then Hernandez with an oppo single, his third opposite field hit of the game. Finally Hosey says enough of this oppo shit and bangs one off the left field wall.

Reyes also had an oppo hit. That's the way to go, boys, hit the ball where it's pitched.

I love the way the guys just kept the line moving. Hit your single, keep the pressure on the pitcher, and wait until Hosey can clean the bags.

Hill got bailed out by a nice leaping catch at the fence by DeShields but settled down and pitched great in the 8th. Hand is having possibly his finest season. That was one bitch of a 9th having to deal with Moncada, Abreu, and McCann, three right-handed hitters who can all take you deep. Two K's and a weak roller to first. Awesome job of closing.

DeShields certainly runs well but I've come around to agreeing that he's not a good defensive center fielder. He misplayed a double into a triple and dropped a ball that hit the heel of his glove one step before running into the wall. He didn't even have to leap or stretch for the ball, he just failed to catch a very catchable ball. On top of that he can barely throw the ball to second base.

I don't see any point in playing Mercado. He is down to .122 and is not coming close to getting any hits, not even a loud foul.

The White Sox have got to be wondering what hit them. This could be an interesting weekend as they go up against the Cubbies. I'm still wondering if we hurt ourselves in the long run by allowing the Twins to pass Chicago and win the division thereby forcing us to play the first series in Minnesota where the Twins are 23-5.

Twins will have their hands full this weekend with Cinci...
Reds in a dog fight to make the post-season & believe me, the LA Dodgers really don't want to see Cinci & the 3 solid starters to open the post-season run...

We’ll be busy hosting the Bankees...

as of now.. it's the A's v Indians in the WC round..

I am praying to HaShem that we will sweep the Pirates and the Cubs will take at least one from the Sox.

HaShem usually listens to me, except when I ask for Cleveland championships. Except that one time...

A's have since lost to the Dodgers and our current match up is now vs the Twins

By the way, when did they change the rules and allow teams to come from three runs behind and win? Haven't seen that all year. And we haven't seen three straight pinch hits by the Tribe in 46 years.

We had the White Sox number this year but they have a very bright future. We still could get them in the playoffs because it looks like any team can beat any other team in a 3- or 5-game series. There are only five games separating the top six teams although you have to consider the length of the season.

The Astros could lose their last three and finish 29-31 and still make the playoffs as the second place team in the West, giving them the #6 seed while the Tribe could win their last three and finish 36-24 and get the 7th seed if the White Sox win out. That's so wrong.

They should not penalize teams for playing in a stronger division. Seed the three division winners 1-3 and take the next five best records regardless of where they place in their divisions and seed them accordingly.

I was just thinking about this. It makes no sense to seed 2nd place teams above wild card teams when you know there will be wild card teams with better records. Oh well its a weird year.

eh, no one has benefited from playing in a weak division in recent years than the indians. here might be a little payback

I think the unbalanced schedules put more doubt than usual into the argument that better record = better team.

Sure, this (comes around/goes around), and it is also just the pandemic laced, short season rules of which we have all been aware. I think some of us even talked about this possibility a few months back, though not specifically in regard to the Tribe.
I'd rather not draw the Twins in Minneapolis, but if we have to, going with our top 3 pitchers in a best of three series is just about ideal circumstances.
