2020 Starting Pitching Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If there is one area the Indians can deal with injuries at, its SP.

They’re so deep on the 40 man and have a bevy of prospect talent in AAA and AA knocking on the door.

They have an embarrassment of riches on the pitching side, especially with some of their good reliever prospects finally hitting the upper levels.

What's your starter list? Here's my list off the top of my head. I'd also be open to us moving more towards an opener with bullpen days.
  • Clevinger
  • Bieber
  • Carrasco
  • Civale
  • Plesac
  • Plutko
  • Jefry
  • McKenzie
  • Logan Allen
  • Scott Moss?
  • Hentges? (I'd really like to turn him into a bullpen weapon)

McKenzie & Hentges might be options but more likely I would consider them part of a 2nd/ 3rd wave (along with JC Mejia) if needed.
As for other names not currently on the 40 man roster Eli Morgan & Adam Scott should warrant some consideration.

If I had my preference:

Clevinger
Bieber
Carrasco
Civale
Plesac
Rodriguez
McKenzie
Plutko
Allen
Moss

With the new rule change on relievers I think the sooner they turn Hentges into a reliever the better. He instantly jumps up to Karinchak and Clase’s level as a reliever prospect for me.

I will continue to push McKenzie until I have reason not to. Haven’t seen many pitchers as advanced as he is and has been. Mental aspect of things he’s been ready for the MLB level for a few years now. Physical part of him just needed to catch up.

This knee issue is big for Clevinger. With his current pitching motion, that knee takes a great deal of stress
on each throw. If the knee is compromised at all, there could be a house of cards effect with future
injuries.

I hope for the best.

McKenzie's question marks to me are the same as Chris Sale in some ways. Talent and ability are there just a question of can his thin frame handle the rigors of a full MLB season. They questioned Sales ability but Sale proved he could do it so we are all hoping McKenzie can do it as well.

Why would they want Plutko taking starts from Bieber, Clevinger and Carrasco? It's only a 60-game season so each starter will get about 12 starts instead of 30-33. I don't understand why a six-man rotation is even a consideration except maybe that Plutko is out of options and they have to start him or lose him?

Or because the other guys arms are not in as good of shape as they need to be yet.

Agree, it hard for us (generically speaking) to have a concept of the situations of each individual pitcher...that said, I would be surprised if at least 2 or 3 were not ready for 6 innings right now. We’ll see, soon...

This could be awkward since not all the starters are up to were they are 100% stretched out, so Cleveland either needs to go with a 6 man rotation or carry an extra long reliever to start the season. I vote for the extra long man since Plutko could come out of the pen, do multiple innings a couple times a well, so could possibly Allen as well.

ICYMI - Scott Moss & Logan Allen (from the Buaer trade) were sent out to the Lake County site on Friday 7/17 so neither is still in the mix for the opening 30 man roster

I was working so I didn't see all who got sent down that day. Is there anywhere that lists who is left in camp?

While I haven't seen a current listing of who is still in camp.
But I have seen S Moss, L Allen, J Rodriguez and A Gose all sent over to the satellite site over the last week.

I have also heard the "obvious" news that Jake Elmore will be reassigned soon...

It be nice if they would have a list somewhere for projections. We will have 30 to start off with anyways, so it won't be to hard to project things.
