2020 UDFA Signings

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
One of my good friends went to UNCC and currently has season tickets and he was really talking up Benny Lemay when we hung out for a few drinks yesterday. His athletic profile is pretty godawful but maybe he's just good at football?

I am sure most of you know, but most of these guys get 10k or so guaranteed, 60k is a ton for a UDFA, thus I expect he will make the team.

They guaranteed AJ Green $145,000. With Ward, Greedy, Mitchell and Johnson pretty much a lock for the top 4 spots and Green most likely getting that 5th or 6th spot, Jameson is going to have to beat out guys like Donnie Lewis Jr, Robert Jackson and Tavierre Thomas in order to make the team.

I saw that, 145k is a ton. Maybe we are seeing the value of the UDFA going up as they make up so much of the depth of the league and the competition for them is getting tougher and tougher.

I want to know if this is a DePo thing. A market inefficiency. Simply buy players who are UDFA and stay out of r7 to spend the time calling them to negotiate. Maybe an expected value thing where if one is rotation level and we pay them all a combined $300k guaranteed, it’s a huge win.

Is there any way to compare guaranteed spend on UDFAs? Like a straight chart.

Alex Taylor and A.J. Green in particular were two guys that most draft forecasters thought would get drafted.

Really excited about AJ Green. I think there is definitely an opportunity for him to make the roster. The only CB locks I see on the roster are Ward, Greedy, and Kevin Johnson.

T Mitch, Donnie Lewis, Green, Olumba and a few others will compete for the 4th and 5th CB spot. Mitch might have the upper hand, but I have no doubt that if the Browns love to of the younger guys, they cold cut ties with him.

Also curious to see the final fine print of how he practice squad works in the new CBA. I *think* there is more team protection on being able to move people to and from the practice squad safely without them getting poached, but not 100% sure.

Finally, I propose a nickname for Green of AJ the Redeemer.

He has a chance to make up for the horridness of his fellow OK State alum CB, Justin Gilbert. Wouldn’t it be wild if we eventually got what we thought we’d get out of our 1st rounder Gilbert from a UDFA? Truth be told, even if he just gives a few years of solid back up and special teams play, that alone would far surpass what we got from Gilbert.

I would hate if we got rid of T Mitch. He has been nothing but money when he play. Hell, Greedy might not be better than him and is only getting the nod because of his potential.

Denzel so far appears to be an injury risk - I'd be annoyed if we got rid of T Mitch for an UDFA.
