Ideally, I would love to see the Cavs acquire a big 2-guard that can score, pass, and defend. Somebody like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. OKC won't make the playoffs this year or for a while - they're 14-30 and in 14th place. Outside of SGA and Giddey they don't have much.

However, they have 11 first round picks in the next three years! They have the Pistons' pick this year. And SGA is only 23. They will build around him.

But even if he was available, the Cavs have nothing to offer a team that wants to rebuild. No lottery picks in the next few years. No exciting young players other than Mobley, Garland, and Allen, and they're going nowhere. Nobody is going to give up an impact player for Okoro, Windler, and late draft picks.

If the Cavs make a move it will most likely be for a modest upgrade that won't cost any future assets, like the Rondo deal.

There was a report stating the Cavs were interested in Caris LeVert of Indiana. LeVert is making $17.5 M this year and $18.8 M next year, then he's a free agent. Ricky Rubio is making $17.8 M this year. So the Cavs could trade Rubio for LeVert and the money would be equal this year. Indiana would not have LeVert next year but would free up $18.8 M to be used elsewhere. If LeVert is not in their long term plans and they don't think they can contend next season (they're in 13th place now), maybe they would rather have the extra $19 M next year to help sign somebody to a four-year deal.

I don't know how Indy feels about LeVert. He's 27, in his sixth year, and is averaging 18.4 ppg on 44.7% from the field and 32.5% on 3's. He's also getting 4.1 assists and 3.6 rebounds; not bad for a 2-guard. He's 6'6", 205. The Pacers are 5.4 points better when he's on the court this year. He seems to be worth the money to me. He could be a guy they want as part of their core group for the future.

But this is the kind of deal I think the Cavs are looking for - getting a useful player whose current team is looking to cut salary next year and is willing to give him away for the cap relief. Whether they can find a deal is the question, but you start by looking at lottery teams who have players who don't fit their plans on multi-year deals or whose contracts will expire before the team will contend.
Rumors say Indy is looking for a first round pick and young player for LeVert. Indy has said they like Sexton (after he got injured). A first round pick, Sexton, and filler for LeVert may get it done. $18.8 million is roughly around what the FO would've offered Sexton, too. So he fits financially.

You're absolutely right. Sometimes i forget that our stars (Garland, Mobley, Allen) are pretty much pups compared to top stars in the league..
Koby also has to balance when it is the right time to make a move. But that window is wide open due to the age of the Cavs young stars.
They’re not winning a championship this year- but they can certainly make the playoffs and get into a first round series. Depending on the matchup, who knows, maybe the second round.
Now you’d have a team that tasted an actual playoff series and with that experience can further develop their individual games. Because they’re so damn young, they can internally fix some of the flaws that will be exposed and balance that vs what Koby can seek in terms of external upgrades.
He really has to be the envy of the league right now as a GM. But when he does make a move, it has to be the right one.

Well it sounds like LeVert is the guy the Pacers will move at the deadline from what I've read.. like Sabonis was available, but not really available.. maybe "available for Jaylen Brown" available sort of thing. And now Myles Turner is available but won't be traded for in all likelihood.

I think the Pacers have their "Caris Levert for Rubio and a #1 pick" deal in their back pocket that they are shopping it around, maybe it includes Windler or Wade.

I like Caris, he's not great, but he could provide more of what Rubio provided than Rondo will. He plays with his head up and makes decent plays of the action he creates, but also calls his own number a little too much, imo. The only thing that makes me a little nervous on him, besides injury history, is his usage, ideally we'd bring a guy who can produce with and without the ball, because he will be deferring at times to Garland.

A few guys have mentioned Josh Hart as well, I like him too. In fact, a deal that got both LeVert and Hart could be ideal for the Cavs.

No way I'm offering a 1st Round pick + Sexton + Rubio (who would have to be the filler) to get Levert.

Sexton is better than Levert, the first round pick is worth more than Levert.

I'm sure Indy is asking for that -- but that's a crazy deal.

The first round pick and Rubio’s expiring. If they want Windler too why not.

I was just about to post this lol great and must watch
Kevin Love is probably joining the NBA media when he retires. I doubt he is like RJ and actually learns how to be a broadcaster (which is so impressive by the way - he runs point on TV sometimes) or even like Jalen Rose who goes to work every day and talks shit. Seems too laid back and quiet to do that. But I could see him with a podcast or being a regular guest on someone's show.

It doesn't matter if the Cavs have the #1 seed. As long as the Nets go into the playoffs with Harden, Durant, Kyrie, Patty Mills, Aldridge, and Joe Harris available the Cavs aren't beating them.

In fact, Brooklyn's record is much better on the road than at home and they'll be even better on the road now that Kyrie is playing. They might be the first team with a "road court advantage" in the playoffs so KD being out might actually help them. They could be better off with the 5-6 seed than 1-4.

I'm trying to keep Windler in a trade for LeVert.

LeVert brings us some line-up flexibility this year to take work off Garland's hands, but, he does tend to be a bit more ball dominant, like Collin (but a worse outside shooter). In that scenario, you need more passive, spacing players to put around him. Having Windler+Markk/Love+Mobley alongside of him in a unit with Garland on the bench would be a line-up where we can likely hang on to and potentially extend leads.

The question on LeVert for me is the redundancy with Sexton next year. Can they share the court with their tendencies? I think the offensive ball movement with them together when Garland is on the bench could be quite ugly.

I love that we’re in the conversation for the #1 seed….but I hope this board doesn’t lose perspective. Even getting the 6th seed and making the playoffs/avoiding the play-in would be a HUGE win for this team and prove the future is bright.

I've got a hunch one of the following players will be a member of the Cavs by the trading deadline:

A: Caris LeVert - 27 years old; 6'6" avg. 30 min. 18 ppg.
B: Buddy Heild - 29 years old 6'4" avg. 29 min. 15 ppg.
C: Eric Gordon - 33 years old 6'4" avg. 29 min. 15 ppg.

Money is not really an issue with any of these trades. Rubio's contract would pretty much cover most of them. Some teams might prefer some players.

So who do you want?
I prefer LaVert. He's played with Allen before.

With the teams so bunched together, at least right now, I'm not even thinking as much about seeds versus wins. The Cavs, in the 6 spot, are on pace for 48 wins and the first place Bulls are on pace for 53 wins. So I agree. Anything in the upper 40s or better is a wildly successful season for this young team.
