I've got a hunch one of the following players will be a member of the Cavs by the trading deadline:

A: Caris LeVert - 27 years old; 6'6" avg. 30 min. 18 ppg.
B: Buddy Heild - 29 years old 6'4" avg. 29 min. 15 ppg.
C: Eric Gordon - 33 years old 6'4" avg. 29 min. 15 ppg.

Money is not really an issue with any of these trades. Rubio's contract would pretty much cover most of them. Some teams might prefer some players.

So who do you want?
I prefer LaVert. He's played with Allen before.
I'd like Gordon for our bench, but I'm not giving up a first round pick for him.

What scares me about LeVert is that he is tempting because he is a wing, can get his own shot, and handle the ball.. but he is everything that would not work in our starting lineup. We need a defender between DG and Lauri. That's not LeVert. We need a consistent 3 point shooter. LeVert's 3P% is below league average. We need a playmaker to feed our bigs and let DG play off-ball. LeVert likes to get his abit too much when he has the ball.

I have no idea of contracts and the like, but give me Heild if all things are equal. Good guy. Incredible shooter from 3 - around 40% and lots of them are hard shots. The way teams have to play him 5 ft beyond the line would give everyone so much space to operate.

Money is an issue with Heild because his deal runs a year longer and it would be great if the Cavs could keep the books clean for the summer of 2023.

LeVert is just too inefficient, too ball dominant, and relies too much on driving into the lane for me. Our spacing is already completely jacked and his assist numbers are really meh for a guy who's usage is that high. Also, if the Pacers want a first round pick for LeVert they're completely delusional. That's not the trade market for overpaid, inefficient chuckers. They're lucky to get Rubio's expiring contract. I promise you if LeVert's still on the Pacers books after the deadline, they're not going to be happy.

I'd offer Rubio and the Rockets 2nd to Houston for Gordon. He can shoot from outside, doesn't dribble the air out of the ball, can still drive when necessary, and is the best defender out of the three even if he's shorter than LeVert. Then see what the Celtics want to turn Cedi into J. Rich.

Note that while Hield's contract has an extra year, the value of the contract actually decreases every year:

He's got a cap hit of $22.4M this year, but only $18.5M in year 3.

If he could defend, I'd probably take the cap hit in the third year. Heck, if he could defend, I'd view that as a value contract and be fine if it went on for five years. But he can't, so I'm not. He makes too much money for a one-way, one-skill player. If we're putting a first on the table, go ahead and get Harrison Barnes. But I suspect that this debate is mostly academic because the Kings are really all in on Simmons right now. Their owner meddles too much, is tired of missing the playoffs, and wants fans back in the arena. They're not trading Buddy or Barnes until it's clear that Philly doesn't value either player.

I like Gordon also, but I will be buyer beware of him. Watching him play a few time the last few weeks , his legs really do look shot, almost like he playing in slow motion or hurt……That Houston second round pick has strong values, I want mind using it, but I want to make sure I’m getting strong values on my return…..

Cost not being an issue I wouldn't mind either. Especially Barnes since he could actually start at the 3.
Why starts him when LM is finally coming around, I would use Barnes in the Cedi role but plays him in 2-4 positions depending on the team….

I'm all for the Cavs waiting until the day of the deadline unless someone unexpected becomes available. Honestly, Morey and the Sixers have the league a bit frozen right now. No one wants to trade positive value for the ham and eggers that are out there only to find out that they could've been the third team in a bigger trade for better players.

On the Hollinger & Duncan podcast, one of them mentioned that there are plenty of folks around the league that are not convinced that Levert, on his current contract, is even a positive asset.

I have no strong opinion as to how Hollinger did as a GM, but I'd imagine that he had done decently dialed-in contacts. I'd be very disappointed if we ended up giving up more than Rubio and a protected FRP for Levert.

According to cleaningtheglass.com LeVert's points per shot attempt puts him in the 53rd percentile among "combo" guards. The last four years he's been between the 29th and 40th percentile so he's finally edged just above average.

In assist per usage rate he's above average - in the 66th percentile, but last year he was in the 97th and two years before that 96th so he's demonstrated great passing ability.

He's only hitting 32% of his 3's and his EFG is 49.9% which is why he's only average in points per shot attempt.

In terms of on/off he's a +5.4, the highest of his career by far. I think he would be a clear upgrade over Okoro. If we could get him for Rubio and a second round pick I would definitely do it. But we would only have him for 1.5 years before he hits free agency so I would be very reluctant to give up even a lower first round pick because I don't see us going to the EC Finals even if we got LeVert.

My concern with Levert is that he is a very very high usage guy who does not do well without the ball in his hands. That might be helpful this year to snag a few more wins, but I think will be an issue next season and on once we re-add Sexton and Rubio. He takes away touches from guys who need it like Mobley, Okoro, and Pagnos. Id rather add someone who can play well off and on ball like EG, Simons, or TJ.

Levert is p bad on the defensive end too.

If we traded for LeVert that would be $18.8 M we would have to pay him next year. In that case I'm sure we would trade Sexton.

Miami, Chicago, and Philly all lost tonight. OKC got blown out by Charlotte.
