Not to be the harbinger of doom, but... if Love and Cedi don't start hitting their shots soon, there will be more losses coming up.

Over the last 7 games, these guys are averaging almost 10 3pt attempts between them. Cedi is shooting a nausea-inducing 16% and Love is at 28%.

With Okoro remaing a total non-factor on the perimeter, we just can't deal with that kind of bricklaying from our top bench scoring options. The fact that Markkanen has been red hot (and has increased his 3PA's of late) has alleviated the problem somewhat, but he'll come back down to earth.

By contrast, Windler is shooting 50% in January, but he's still getting only a couple of shots per game. That doesn't make any sense. We have to find this guy more looks. It's not just about scoring from the perimeter – it's almost as much about spacing. It's getting awfully crowded inside for Allen and Mobley.

IMO Love's minutes need to be cut drastically or the guy needs a couple of games off. Wade should be getting PT, and Windler has to play more in Isaac's spot.

If we traded for LeVert that would be $18.8 M we would have to pay him next year. In that case I'm sure we would trade Sexton.

Miami, Chicago, and Philly all lost tonight. OKC got blown out by Charlotte.
And don't look now, but Charlotte is now 0.5 games out of 6th place. Avoiding the play in is anything but secured for the Cavs at this point.

Just to check - the last year on Gordon's deal is fully non-guaranteed right?

If so, that's a big advantage going into next year, since his contract has more value than a standard expiring contract -- since whoever has him can use him to clear another teams cap space in a trade in Summer 2023.

Heat Check is definitely who I turn to for a positive outlook. I don’t think he’s had one negative or doom/gloom post yet today…

KI4MVP: now that’s one negative SOB

If there’s someone who knows the power of positivity and recognizes positive content it’s me. I fully endorse Heat Check for keeping everyone in good spirits.

I think a big part of this the fact Rubio is out and we do not have a PG who can distribute right now with Rondo out. We also just got off a brutal stretch of games on the road with little rest. I think for both Love and Cedi they need to be in rythem to play the best and with a lack of a creator it has hurt them. I think after this little break and getting back to playing more home games we will start to see them turn it around. The entire team looked burned out against the Bulls.

I agree this team needs decent three point shooting from somewhere to help with spacing and to keep the paint open. And, I've seen you acknowledge in past posts that players do go through streaks, and ups and downs over the course of the season.

So I see it as somewhat normal that Love and Osman would go through a shooting slump at some point after providing abnormally hot 3 point shooting earlier in the season. I see it most likely being a hangover effect from a grueling road trip that everyone could see coming. Even Garland has fallen off some with his outside shot. Osman missed some time with back problems and it seems he hasn't ever recovered fully since that. Love is old and it's reasonable to assume the road schedule would have an adverse effect on his shooting accuracy. This ain't rocket science.

On the other hand, it's just as logical to assume Love and Osman are going to rebound back to something closer to their career averages, or in Osman's case something better than his career average because he has worked hard to improve his outside shot during the past off season. As for Love, I think some games off and reduced minutes are in order, but if he comes out shooting hot then be flexible enough to let him eat and keep his confidence up.

I do agree that Windler needs to be weaned into playing more minutes when it counts. He needs to continue to ramp up his attempts per game and become a viable option by playoff time. Same for Okoro and Stevens, they both need to be able to knock down open threes at a respectable rate to either spread the defense or to punish them when they pack the paint.

This is all do-able. It remains to be seen how well we actually pull it off. I like JBB but I worry a bit about his ability to recognize and adjust on the fly. That needs improvement as well.

The only problem with giving guys nights off is how tight the East is, a bad week and the Cavs could easily be down in 7th with 3 teams closing on them. I like the play in as a concept but not this year damm it.

The way Love has been playing lately, Wade can easily fill in for him.
