I'd be surprised if Grayson suits up against us on Wednesday. I'm gonna predict a 5 game suspension. It should be longer.

Grayson suspended for ONE game...fortunately he'll serve his suspension against us. We have enough injuries - last thing we need is that maniac running around the floor.

Jrue totally shut down Darius last game. I predict a bleak 20 point loss.

With the Bucks healthy, it was probably a loss regardless. They are just better than we are at this point. But of our next 5, that’s really the only one I doubt we can win. As long as our big 3 stay healthy and play reasonably well, we should be able to keep this thing afloat.

Our depth has done well this year. In retrospect, we started the year with almost an entire roster that can play on an NBA court - we really didn’t have many unplayable options. But losing Sexton, Rubio and Markk is stretching us thin, especially with Rondo still not back. We can’t take another injury to a significant contributor. We need to keep the guys we still have healthy until Markk gets back or we add someone to the roster.

The Knicks game is debatable. I would probably favor them over the Cavs right now.

Any news about Lauri ?
He's out today - No break, but no timeline for return yet.

Fedor said organization is preparing for him to be out for 'a while'.

Assuming that's 4 weeks or so? At least until after all-star break.

Curious, if the Cavs were playing the Washington Generals, would you have the Generals as ten-point favorites?

Last night the Bulls, playing without LaVine, Ball, and Caruso, lost by 19 to the 9-39 Orlando Magic, worst record in the NBA. DeRozan had 41 points but the Bulls' bench scored 10 points in 68 minutes. Two of their starters (Cook and Dosunmu) combined for 9 points in 67 minutes. The Bulls are a top heavy team - it's all about LaVine, DeRo, Ball, Vucevic, and Caruso. With three of them out they have big problems. Both Ball and Caruso will be out for a month if not more.

Charlotte, in 7th place at 26-21, lost at home by 22 points to Atlanta (21-25). Brooklyn (29-17) lost to 23-23 Minnesota despite 30 points by Kyrie. Durant being out obviously is impacting the Nets.

Miami has moved into first place, two games ahead of the Cavs. The Heat has won 7 of 10. The Bulls have lost 7 of 10 while the Bucks and Nets are 5-5. The Cavs now have the best point differential in the Eastern Conference. Other than the Heat the teams at the top of the EC have been either struggling or treading water. According to powerrankingsguru.com the Cavs have the easiest schedule in the NBA the rest of the way so if they can overcome the Markkanen injury they can realistically stay right up in the top 4-5 for the rest of the season.

For some reason the Bucks have lost two games to Charlotte, two to Toronto, and one each to Atlanta and Detroit this month. I don't know what is going on with them, but they are 17-3 when Giannis, Middleton, and Jrue Holiday start. They've had 29 games when at least one of them was not available and they are 13-16 in those games. The Bucks are another team that is hugely dependent on three players like Brooklyn and Chicago.

Miami and Cleveland are the most balanced teams. Miami has eight players scoring between 9-21 ppg while the Cavs also have eight players averaging between 9-20 ppg.

I think the playoffs will come down to who is healthy. If Milwaukee has Giannis, Middleton, and Holiday they will be tough to dethrone. If the Bulls have LaVine, DeRozan, Ball, Vucevic, and Caruso they will be a tough out. Same with Brooklyn with Durant, Harden, Irving, and Mills, although Irving will not play home games.

The Heat have the best record as of this moment. They are 18-11 when Jimmy Butler plays and 12-6 when he's out so they are not as dependent on him as I thought.

It seems like there have been a lot of upsets lately and that will probably continue as teams at the top try to win without some of their key players.

One team that has been really lucky from an injury/COVID standpoint is the Charlotte Hornets, who are 26-21. They have played 47 games and have five players who have started 38-45 games. Three non-starters have played 39-43 games.

Compare that to the Cavs with Sexton missing 36 games so far, Rubio 15, and Okoro 17, not to mention Allen, Mobley, and Markkanen missing 7, 8, and 9.

If injury luck evens out Charlotte may have some injuries in the second half and fall off a bit.

The team that is most dependent on one player is Philadelphia, which is 24-11 when Joel Embiid plays and 3-8 when he is out. Embiid is averaging 33.8 points and 10.5 rebounds in January. His last three games he scored 50, 40, and 38 points. He's my MVP so far based on individual numbers and the team W-L when he plays versus when he sits.

The Cavs have not faced the Sixers yet and play them four times in three weeks starting Feb. 12. Those will be great matchups with Embiid and Allen going against each other. The Sixers are on a roll having won 11 of 14. They are 0.5 games behind the Cavs and moving up.

Connective tissue generally heals more slowly than bones, so a bad sprain may require a longer recovery period than a broken bone. There's not really any way to know without having more details about the severity of the injury.

It is depressing to think Chicago may have Ball (had knee surgery) back before we get Lauri back.
