2021 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Think you saw this year the lack of DB recruiting for a few years there. Reinforcements are coming though.

Also doesn't help that we had 2 guys who had reps last year in Riep/Wint get dismissed before Covid even popped up.

That changes so quickly.

Heading into this season, Clemson had won 2 of the last 3 with over the last 4 years. Clemson had 2 titles to Bamas 1. Bama missed the playoffs last year.

I still think it's Clemson and Bama together in the 1st tier.

Fair, but I guess I'm looking ahead. Bama was still considered in that tier last year because they've been a perennial contender and won more over the last ten-plus years than anybody. We've been that 3rd place program while Clemson, over the last 5 years, has been on Bama's level. I could see that flipping/us catching up with Clemson while not surpassing Bama.

But none of that is really meaningful. We remain in the top or two of the sport with a chance to make a title run any given season, but we haven't broken into the realm of a dynasty team. I think Day has that potential, especially if these next two classes live up to the hype.

We need athletic LBs. How does our future look at that position? Don’t might having a Pete Werner or a Tuf Borland, not a fan of having both at the same time on the field.

Not sure about immediate future, but 2022 is hauling in some real studs at LB.

That’s too far away though. We need help now. Don’t know much about the guys they’ll trot out next year. I forgot our 2019 class was not very good. Not even top 10 nationally. And Harrison has not proven to be a difference maker yet. Think we are paying for some recruiting missteps the last few years. Luckily, the future looks a lot better with 2021 and 2022. If we are going to string together a couple titles or 2/3, its going to be from those guys.

Wanna see more little WR screens next year. Not a ton, but I was thinking about we never saw Olave really just take a 1 yard pass and turn into a 50 yard touchdown like Smith does.

But then I thought more and its because Olave never really got the chance. Day's offense seems designed to throw down the field, but...just an occasional little swing pass to see what's cooking from time to time maybe?

They did try a quick hitter with one of the TE lined up right next to Olave, but it got stopped for no gain. I agree though. Same goes for RB screens, which they tried but not Teague's strong point nor did Fields put the balls in a position to be caught and ran with.

The Wide Receiver room is built to get downfield.

Garrett Wilson is the best receiver in the country.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba can murder on the cross, slant, back shoulder. Jameson Williams is pure downfield speed.

Julian Fleming and Gee Scott are a bit behind the others but are in the same mold.

Getting these guys in space and forcing defensive backs to tackle is an intriguing idea, but I’m not sure it should be any significant part of what Day does offensively.

Teague should transfer. He seems like a great kid but he struggled even against mediocre big ten teams this year. There's no nice way of saying it but I just can't stand watching him run. He's a modern day Lydell Ross. I'm ready to move on to Henderson/Pryor while mixing in some Miyan Williams.

I'm willing to give him a little more benefit of the doubt. Guy suffered an Achilles injury less than 10 months ago. There's still a place for him in the rotation. Going to take Henderson and Pryor, as true freshmen, to get up to speed anyhow. Could see them leaning on the older guys at the start of the schedule and that includes Teague.

Why don't you go tear your Achilles, bust your ass trying to recover in 8 months during a pandemic, and then watch people shit on you and tell you to transfer because you weren't your best.

Let me know how it works out for you.

Unfortunately, I've exhausted all my college eligibility. But please, take my comment a little more personally.

FWIW, I wasn't a huge fan of his game prior to the Achilles tear and his performance this season to begin with. He had decent numbers last year but the last 3 games of the year against PSU/Michigan/Clemson... 21 carries for 45 yards. A huge turning point in that Clemson loss was Dobbins getting hurt and missing a quarter or two and Teague was so ineffective filling in. The offense was nowhere nearly the same until Dobbins came back in.

He's just not it, IMO. Good enough to beat up on the dregs of the Big Ten but not good enough to make impact plays against the elite teams. Kind of like a poor man's version of Mike Weber, who was probably our worst every down RB in the Urban/Day era, or like I said Lydell Ross 2.0. I guess we've just been spoiled with Hyde, Zeke, Dobbins, and the few games of Sermon to where the bar has been raised.

I agree. Just absolutely nothing special - neither speed, nor quickness, nor power, nor vision. This offense didn't look special this year until he was replaced.

Be shocked if Henderson doesn’t start turning heads immediately. Dude is the truth.
We need it. The best way to beat speedy teams from the south is with a running game. Clarett and Zeke. Once we lost Sermon -- yeah, and that soon -- I knew we were toast because Fields cannot carry a team on his own.

Meyer to Jacksonville sounds about done.

now we wait. If he takes Dennis, we probably lose Ewers I’d imagine. Back to Texas he’d go.
