2021 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Meyer to Jacksonville sounds about done.

now we wait. If he takes Dennis, we probably lose Ewers I’d imagine. Back to Texas he’d go.
Dennis is a fresh QB coach, I would assume that Ryan Day would still be enough to keep him here if Dennis goes. I now relationships are huge, hence why we lost out to the CB that ended up in Utah because Halfley left.

Strudwara and Coombs could be 2 other coaches on the staff I could see them talking with. Mariotti and Pantoni fit in the NFL? I don't know but those are Urban guys.

I heard Dennis played a huge part in that recruitment. So I’m simply speculating based off that. And the fact that Texas suddenly has some pizzazz around it w the Sarkisian hiring.

I understand that, but Sark couldn't do that with USC, not saying he can't with Texas. Definitely has an interesting track record as the head guy.

Way too long to really say one way or another. Let's see how things fall out over the next few weeks/months before we get worried about it.

Leave us Hartline. Like to keep Marotti, but Hartline is my #1 worry. Hartline was a successful NFL WR, so I can see both Urban wanting him and him possibly wanting to go.

Coombs was JUST in the NFL, so I could see him going.

I would assume everyone else on the staff are college coaches for now. Larry Johnson for sure isn't going.

A lot of people think he's going to take Pantoni. I don't understand for what job.

Yes, but I was more referring to the surface level excitement around Texas. That stuff matters in recruiting. I’d be surprised if Sark brings Texas up to Alabama, Clemson, OSU level anytime soon. But all that matters is that people watched him obliterate OSU on the national stage (he’s getting heaps of credit for that), and his name is hot right now.

But yea we’ll see

Hartline seems built more for the college game than NFL

I hope so.

Very few position coaches have been as good as his short stint as WR coach. Fickell was a great LB coach. Larry Johnson is a great DL coach.

Don't know who else I'd put up there with him.

Be shocked if Henderson doesn’t start turning heads immediately. Dude is the truth.

The ground and pound of Teague paired with Henderson's big play ability could be incredibly exciting.

Biggest question will be the progression of Stroud, Miller or McCord.

Whoever wins that battle has to get the ball downfield to this incredible assortment of wide receiver talent. Limit turnovers and allow receivers to make the job easier. Story of the season.

Everything else offensively is going to be there.

Which QB prospect you like the most?

I don't understand why Urban Meyer is doing this.

First, I think he's got a much better job now. He can do what he wants, provide actual expert analysis (while I think a lot of sportscasters are mostly fluff) and stay healthy. Unless he's just full of shit, his last two exits were heart/stress related. Why dive back into that?

And second, I don't think he'll succeed. I mean, he's a great coach with a great track record who would be inheriting a #1 QB, but the NFL is a different monster from college and it doesn't play to his strengths. He's great at recruiting and building a system, but we saw a number of seasons under him where it felt like the team lacked focus and didn't properly utilize talent.

I guess there is the fact that he's gonna be making a shitload...

I have a guess that he wanted to coach again, but doesn't want to deal with the transfer portal.

Has anyone told him about free agency? :chuckle:

I guess he wants to create an NFL legacy, and there isn't anything for him to do on the college level. He's already proven to be one of the greats with his titles, but not Saban level great, which I don't think anyone can catch.

Urban just loves coaching and he is probably excited for the challenge. I think the health concerns are real. He obviously stresses himself out to the point where his body breaks down. That is why Shelley has been opposed to him going back to coaching but perhaps the NFL schedule will be less of a grind because there is an actual off-season.

I'd be most worried about Hartline getting poached and @colonel nailed my reasoning - that NFL experience is needed.

I am less worried about Marotti although I think his departure would make a bigger impact than anyone else currently on staff leaving. Luckily strength & conditioning is a little different in the NFL. Most these guys have their own private guys to work with in the off-season. Marotti excels at turning doughy children into hardened players. Most guys trying to get into the league have already been through that type of training so I am not sure it makes the most sense but who really knows.
