2021 College Football National Championship | #3 Ohio State vs. #1 Alabama | January 11th, 2021 @ 8:00 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So, say Fields, Sermon, and Olave all come back next year. OSU would absolutely annihilate every single team in the country.

This is what just happened with Bama. Jones, Harris, Smith (not to mention others), all came back and they annihilated everybody.

It likely won't happen for OSU with those guys, but that is the difference sometimes. Bama would not be here right now if their guys left for the NFL. Or, at best they'd be a shell of what this team is on the field tonight.

Fields isn’t good. Can’t wait for Ewers

I feel like we only got a glimpse of how dynamic Fields could have been as a runner. Maybe if he wasn't hurt they would have unleashed him in this game. They have protected him by not running him.

Does Sermon have eligibility left?

Everyone has eligibility. This season was a free season. Didn't count towards eligibility.

He is one guy I could see coming back and building on what he did in these last couple games. He could improve his draft stock by alot by showing he could be that dynamic for a full season.

The back 7 was just so bad this year. Day going to have to look long and hard at what happened this year and make the necessary changes.

Anyway, expand the playoff. Watching the exact same teams every year is not only getting old, but it's creating a system where the rich get richer over and over.

Because players only care about the playoffs now. So then, the teams who make the playoffs, continue to, year in and year out, just get the best players.

Expand the playoff, spread out the talent a little bit.

EDIT:

Also, my hope is by spreading out the talent this entire "national title or bust every year" stuff will die. I WANT the Big Ten to be competitive again. And while, in the moment I'll hate it, I want Michigan to actually compete again. It makes the year so much more fun when these games don't feel like foregone conclusions.

I also feel like the concentration of talent is making college football less innovative. The good teams basically just run basic NFL offenses. I would even say that the NFL is more interesting in how they have evolved their offenses recently and the college game has regressed.

It actually makes sense for Urban to jump into the NFL because his offense fit there better now than ever. It would be interesting if he bring Tom Herman in as his OC.

Yea it feels like AAU ball. NO need to get creative when your bigger stronger and faster at literally every position. Just line up and hit them and run by them.

Barely see the spread option anymore. Absolutely no triple option. No I-formation.

Hell, Alabama used to be a two tight end, run behind a full back team when Saban first got there. Won a title with Mark INgram that way.

And now even he just runs a typical pro offense.

Tom Herman was the guy who snitched to McMurphy about Zach Smith, which led to Urban being suspended and essentially forced into early retirement.

I cannot imagine a world in which Urban ever works with Herman again.

What even worse is the guys that use to be used in innovative schemes are being left out at the time where they could work their way to actually play in the NFL. The NFL finally wants those guys and they have no platform to show what they have.

The Urban/Herman offense was so fun to watch in those couple years. I feel like people would love Fields alot more if Day's offense wasn't so boring.

Well, I still think Fields goes in the 1st round, but even if he was running the spread option and running for 90-100 yards a game, he'd end up slipping down the draft for the same reason he's going to now. He's currently a 1 read guy.

Lamar Jackson didn't go until the mid 1st round either.

ANd no one hates fields. Zander is just being goofy.

But he DID have two really awful games this year. Tonight was mediocre. It's just....2 awful games in 8 is a fairly bad ratio ando ne that's gonna cost him.

I don't think anyone hates Fields but I don't think people feel a connection to him like other Ohio State QBs of his talent level. Like I would put Troy Smith, Braxton, and Cardale Jones as my favorite Buckeye QBs. I don't know where Fields would land for me but he isn't up there with those guys. He is definitely more talented than those guy and will have a better NFL career.
