2021 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
ND will likely just join the ACC. UNC isn't ditching Duke and fuck BC (I'd gladly take the rest, just seems unlikely).

If there's a single super-conference, they will certainly get additional preference for playoff spots while the other conferences struggle to get a team in (especially in the current format).

I totally see the motivation for OU/UT and the SEC, but it's certainly not a positive step for the sport or the B1G. The Big 12 has 8 other teams that will now have to scramble for a spot in the remaining "Power" conferences or be left to rot. I guess one could argue it's part of the sports inevitable shift away from being a regional sport to being the same as every major sports league, but doesn't mean people have to enjoy it.

The problem with the SEC consolidating more power is that it makes it worse to follow everywhere else in the country. Why are you acting like it's a surprise that anyone would question this move?

Exactly my thoughts. I just don’t have the energy to keep going, though.

Its not Texas or OU's job to prop up the rest of their conference.

If those teams aren't good enough to compete with the rest of the college football world, what are we even talking about?

They were non-factors before and after, so this would essentially change nothing. Teams that perform well in that conference will get into the 12-team over a 4-loss SEC team.

B1G schools make way more money than ACC schools. I think we’ll be able to poach most ACC schools if we wanted

Yeah, I'd be stunned if the ACC ends up surviving at the end of all the realignment. They will die, along with the Big 12 and Pac 12.

Really a bad time for the B1G to have such a worthless commissioner. You see Sankey out here making power moves, meanwhile Warren is sitting around with his thumb up his ass.

Never thought I'd say this but I'd give anything to bring back Delany.

This was my other thought. B1G needs a gangster up there right now, not this worthless fuck. Ugh.

Didn't say it was their job, but it's still a shame to see a major conference die.

Look at Iowa State. They have a good head coach and the chance to build a winner, maybe even make the Playoff. This is killing that dream. Now Iowa State is without the academics or market to join the B1G and is geographically isolated otherwise. Instead of having a chance to become a contender, they get shafted. It's not an easy task to get a team into national contention, and every Power 5 has irrelevant programs.

It's also not just about the 4-loss SEC hypothetical. Ohio State's blemishes will be even more highly scrutinized while SEC losses get dismissed.

What's gonna happen to the PAC? They haven't lost anyone and will have several teams knocking on their door.

The ACC I could see dying, but only if Clemson and/or the Florida teams try to jump to the SEC as well. Otherwise they likely keep Notre Dame in the fold, add WVU, and stay afloat.

I'll believe ND to the B1G when I see it, along with any other poachings.

Probably related:

EDIT: BTW, someone jokingly suggested the B1G & PAC merge into the first bi-coastal mega-conference. It's a wild thought but something like that could end up on the table with the SEC becoming the end-all of the sport. Save the Rose Bowl by making it a conference title bowl game.

Thats some wild shit.

I don't think I could see both conferences merging as a whole, but I could see a scenario where the following teams separated from the two conferences to create a new conference:

  1. OSU
  2. Michigan
  3. Wisconsin
  4. Indiana
  5. Illinois
  6. Northwestern
  7. Purdue
  8. Iowa
  9. USC
  10. UCLA
  11. Washington
  12. Washington State
  13. California
  14. Oregon
  15. Oregon State
  16. Stanford

Effectively the eight longest standing members of each conference.

Pretty sure the Big 10 would be all for dumping Rutgers and Nebraska if they could somehow add these four teams to become a 16-team conference.

1. ND
2. Clemson
3. Kansas
4. Virginia

Hell yeah! KU baby!

Nothing like adding the worst program in the Power 5. Rutgers wasn't bad enough I guess
Worst in football, but adding Kansas to the Big 10 would be incredible for Big 10 basketball. Obviously this is the football thread and they’re terrible at football, but I definitely see the draw to adding them.
