2021 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Something must be up at Oregon. Not only did they lose Cristobal to Miami, but Moorhead to Akron of all places. They must be big game hunting?

We’ll Cristobal is also a Miami native who played at Miami, was a GA at Miami and an offensive assistant at Miami.
IIRC, his mother has some health issues at the moment as well. Probably not a major factor, but has to be included.

Financial support. Fan base. And the real killer is the lack of school specific field.
I don’t think the field is a big issue. The current ACC champ doesn’t have their own fields.

Fan base is only a problem if they lose. If they win, it doesn’t matter.

Financial support is a legit issue. But honestly, given his history and the recruiting base he now has, I don’t know if it’s a worse job.

If he does well, Miami might be a better job. The ACC is terrible, so if he can recruit Florida at all, he would have an easier path to conference titles and playoff appearances. The Pac-12 isn't great, but it's tougher than the ACC. And as good as the Oregon program has become the last 15 years or so, they still don't have an in state recruiting base to fall back on, so a down stretch for a few years could turn into 25 years if they can't recruit nationally on the same level.

Definitely. That is why I would argue it is a better job.

It also coincides with both Florida and FSU being down, so there is potential for Miami to emerge from the fray (in Florida) as the top program.

Michigan did play Wisconsin and Iowa this year.

So you at least have a proxy of offensive performance against two good defenses and Michigan performed well.
  • Wisconsin is #1 in total defense (240.8), #2 in yards per play (4.17), #3 in offensive TD's (18), #3 in DFEI
  • Iowa is #19 in total defense (326.8), #10 in yards per play (4.72), #T-19 in offensive TD's (29), #4 in DFEI

Their offensive output in those games:
  • Wisconsin: 365 total yards, 4.87 yards per play, 4 offensive TD's, 3 FG's
  • Iowa: 461 total yards, 7.2 yards per play, 6 offensive TD's

They are going to need to have Cade play well vs Georgia but I think the big surprise in the SEC championship game was that Georgia's 4 man pressure wasn't very effective at all. If Michigan can protect and force them to blitz more to bring pressure, I do like their passing game matchups on Georgia's LB's .....either with their TE's or RB's in space.

I also think Michigan's defense can do similar things to Bennett.

Back half of the Georgia season, they played teams that were ranked this way in total defense.

Florida - #46
Mizzou - #111
Tennessee - #85
Charleston - FCS
Georgia Tech - #116
Bama - #8

They have played an exceptionally soft defensive schedule down the stretch. The one good defense they played, they turned it over twice, ran for 3.6 YPC and played catch up the whole second half.

I think Georgia has a ton of talent and maybe they bounce back after getting embarrassed........but it is also possible they just played absolutely no one with a defensive pulse.......and now they are going to play another team that is just as good, if not better, defensively.
Like I said. I don't blame you for talking yourself into it.

GA by 17

So the more I think about Alabama ending up at 1 and Georgia at 3 the more pissed I get. Georgia had absolutely nothing to play for. They knew the committee wouldn't let them rematch Alabama in the first round, and if they lost they are still in, so what difference does it make if they show up or not. Alabama could have won by 50 and Georgia still gets in.

Mean while Alabama is playing for their lives. It's win or go home.

It won't happen because the SEC has the committee bought and paid for but there needs to be rules in place to keep this shit from happening. You get to your conference championship game and lose. Your record doesn't matter period. the end. If you can't win a game for your conference championship you have no business playing for a national championship. Second rule is if for some reason you still end up with 2 teams from a conference in the playoffs those two teams absolutely have to play in the opening round.

That way we don't get this shit of one team from a conference letting another team from the conference into the playoffs

Sounds like Ewers to Texas.

Well, I would never…

Cincinnati is getting manhandled already. Which isn't unexpected. They aren't playing Tulsa today.
