2021 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Joseph Ossai would be such a disappointing pick at 26.

Ossai could very well be a BPA on the defensive line, in which case I would have enough faith in this front office to watch how it all goes down. The lack of college production in the Big 12 is clearly the drawback. We tend to expect video game numbers from that conference.

Ossai is a high-ceiling Swiss Army knife. He is comfortable with his hands in the grass and setting the edge, and also drops into zone coverage at times. He has a solid hands game in the trenches. There are a lot of Big 12 players who wouldn't meet those criteria.

The big point here is that Vernon will not be back, and the Browns defense looked it's best when Vernon was healthy. A starting edge on a rookie scale would also save the team about ten million a season in the next few years.

IMO DE is absolutely a position of need. Vernon is gone and Clayborn will be 33 years old. And then there's the immortal Porter Gustin and . . . .?

DE is probably the biggest need defensively, to me.

Finding the rusher opposite Garrett who can provide the pressure necessary when he's schemed around is integral to the success of whoever winds up in the back seven.

An absolute MUST for this off-season.

Ossai would be near the top of my list. 30 QB pressures from a hybrid DE/OLB is pretty productive (72 over the last two years), especially for someone who also was able to drop into coverage as well.

I'd like to target Matt Juden or Bud Dupree in free agency. Probably too expensive but give it a shot. Add what we need, weaken a divisional opponent, and save 26 for another defensive position.

I dislike him as a first round talent. He's a pass rushing specialist until he learns how to read and react rather than just rush up field every down.

His footwork is also terrible, IMO.

Bud Dupree sucks.

If they go the FA route, Trey Hendrickson is the only real answer.

I think either CB or safety is currently our biggest defensive need. Maybe a versatile LB/safety hybrid.

We couldn't cover anyone this year, and speeding up the rush is just going to mean that good QB's will carve us up with slightly shorter passes to beat the rush. Free agency likely will present a more limited stable of suitable people, so whatever we manage to add via that route may be determinative as to which way we go in the draft.

I also think that we are no longer a rebuilding team but an actual contender, need has to be given more weight when deciding what to do with draft picks high enough to project as starters.

It's a need, but without Vernon, the Browns desperately need another end opposite Garrett. The Browns defense will never function without generating a pass rush with their front 4.

I think it is more able to function with Guston or whomever holding down the fort at DE than it will rolling out the same back 7.

Both need to be and will be addressed.

Between Free Agency, the draft and trade opportunities, the Browns will have no shortage of options to fill these holes.

I wonder how much we will spend in FA this year. It is going to be an interesting offseason with the Cap expected to go down 22M, from 198M to 176M.

I am sure the front office is going to be keeping tabs on Delpit. Keep in mind he is only 22, and a full recovery is more likely at his age. If he can fill the role they intended him to play at safety, they only need to replace Sendejo's spot as third safety. If rehab is going poorly, they may have to spend a day one or two pick on it.

I agree that defensive line and cornerback seem like the target positions on day one and two, assuming no setbacks with Delpit.

Two day two cornerbacks I'm interested in are Asante Samuel Jr. From Florida State and Elijah Molden of Washington. They are both under 6 foot, but they are equally adept in run support and coverage. I'd happily take either as the new nickel corner who can flex outside if there is an injury like Kevin Johnson this past season.

I agree entirely. He fits in the category that I’d like to avoid- situational player who needs significant development to become a consistent player.

I truly don’t think he has the ability to impact the running game with his hand in the dirt.

It's really going to be tough to count on Delpit for anything given that free agency and the draft both likely will occur before the next time anyone steps on the field. We're very weak at corner other than the oft-injured Ward, and our linebackers couldn't cover the 600 pound life guy. I just don't see how improving pass coverage isn't our #1 need defensively.

We're not going to slow down the Chiefs by adding a stud pass rusher.

Judon and Dupree are overrated and going to be massively overpaid. Go get Carl Lawson and then draft an Edge in round 1 or 2.
