JOK to the Browns' suddenly scary defense would be awesome for one of the most well-rounded teams in the NFL.

59. Browns: Kadarius Toney, WR, Florida

There is 0% chance Toney falls to 59. He'd have to get arrested for something really bad for that to happen.

Justin fields at 3 should be the obvious pick.......

49ers are doing exactly what the Browns did with Baker and Darnold. They accept Lawrence and Wilson will be off the board and are making the others give the franchise full attention. They might have a favorite, but they want to see if he trips over his own feet in the process.

Mac Jones at 3 was the smokescreen of smokescreens. Was never, ever going to happen.

I've always believed it's between Fields and Lance. Since Jimmy is in place, they go for either one on the Mahomes development plan. One has been overexposed, one underexposed. Let's see how it goes...

Also, interesting... With the Browns current roster, I wouldn't be surprised at all with their goal being to come out of this draft with a couple picks in future drafts:

Why do you feel this way?

I, personally, have always called wide receivers a hood ornament on the car that is your offense. Offensive line and QB are the engine and driver.

I think that is likely wrong though, because every analytics model I've seen places far more importance on WR's.

If Stefanski is supposed to be in tight-step with these analytic models, and if he came from a system that had Diggs and Thielen, to a situation that has Landry and OBJ, why do you think he doesn't value WR?

I agree that they're both restructure candidates, but at this point I'm not so certain that the money we're paying OBJ is worth his production.

I'm a defender of Beckham, but if we go by your initial assumption that WR isn't heavily used, then why should we be allocating such a large portion of funds to the position?

I agree that both DL and OL should be priorities ahead of WR. That doesn't mean that WR can't be a valuable selection if it's the BPA on your board.

Or look at our offense against Kansas City. It struggled. We didn't have an alpha receiver that could bust through their coverage.

It gives you a boon everywhere. The guys available at 26 wouldn't be available most years. Just because you might be able to get a second round talent in the third doesn't mean that taking a traditionally top-15 talent at 26 is less valuable.

I can't remember who's posted it before, but DePo & Crew have their tiered system of positions and WR was not near the top... QB, OT, DE and CB were all at or near the top..

Combine that with the Browns using two WR sets higher than most, multiple WR sets lower than, and attacking with multiple TEs and a run-based attack, I just don't think investing 1st round picks is something the Browns model approves and not especially with the current window they're operating in..

Having talent and how you acquire talent are also two different things... Berry came into Landry and OBJ, while the Vikings got Thielen off the UDFA scrap heap and Diggs was a 5th round pick... I'm not saying having good WRs is not important, I'm saying I don't think drafting one high, especially now, is on this team's agenda...

While the Browns are allocating a large chunk to both Landry and OBJ, having cheap depth behind them (Natson, DPJ, Hodge, and Higgins will make about $5 million total next year) allows them to do that.. However, I do think it's also a byproduct of having cheap deals elsewhere so we may see a shift in this in the coming years...

I agree the Browns do need a deep threat/element of speed, by having OBJ back and developing DPJ another year, should help with that...

I just think the position past 2021 at DB and DL, and also considering their importance, is a lot more likely and needed to be addressed than WR... I think they're much more likely to go Nico Collins in the mid rounds than they are Rondale Moore or Terrace Marshall in the 1st...

So basically a lot of teams could be looking to trade picks this year for next year?

So, you're right. On that DePodesta Guardrails image, "Key Positions" only listed QB, CB, Pass Rushers, OT.

1) I don't think that every other position outside of CB/DE/OT is devalued equally just because they weren't listed there
2) Things change over the years. That's an old image
3) That's not Andrew Berry's sheet (Even though he may have been with us while that was our organizational philosophy)
4) I interpret that image as how to start a franchise--those are the building blocks. Well, we already have those building blocks covered, so now you keep building on top of them.

Agreed with everything else. I just won't be surprised if WR is the pick at 26. I wouldn't bet on it, I just don't think it's ruled out.

I might be in the minority but Berry is highly unlikely to draft 9 players this draft. So they will be making some moves. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Berry package some picks and move up in the first round and draft a guy they really like in the teens

I don't disagree with the first part, but I think they're more likely to punt 2021 picks in order to pick up higher 2022 picks than they are to move up in the first round.

The Browns used a ton of empty down the stretch and it was a formation that Baker really thrived out of late in the year. I would be stunned, as the Browns move forward, that they don't intend to use more 11.
