2021 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
For me personally...

1. Lawrence - should go No. 1 overall
2. Lance - should go top 10
3. Fields - should go top 10
4. Wilson - should go in the 1st round
5. Trask - should go in the 2nd round
I respect your opinion a lot, and it’s really picking nits since you think both guys go top ten, but what makes you prefer Lance over Fields?

Wilson’s arm is a cannon, that’s for sure.
Very mobile, also quite clear.
But he’s not leading his receivers and it looks quite a bit like he stares them down.
The competition he’s playing is an issue - his throwing windows are huge.

Wait Trask is now clearly better then Baker? 2020 is def getting the best out of many of you

Not sure where you got that from.

As, I’ve stated, multiple times; if the team is not ready to hand Baker north of 25 mil, there are five QB I’d be sprinting to the podium for.

That said? I firmly believe four of the five are better than Baker Mayfield right now.

He’s factoring in the length from beyond the right hash mark to the left corner across the field as well because it was a diagonal throw.
Someone paid attention to the Pythagoran Theorem. A^2 + B^2 = C^2

Eh, I think Baker is probably better than Wilson right now, but since Wilson is crazy mobile, I'd take him long term.

There is no question, IMO, that Lawrence, Fields and Lance are better QBs.

Is level of competition really a great indicator of NFL talent? Serious question- is Wilson’s cast loaded with superior talent to his opponents? If that were the case I could see it being a problem.

Dunno shit about scouting QBs so, just trying to understand.

Playing against the top level of competition reduces uncertainty on skill assessment. That’s it.

ETA: it takes away the “he didn’t play anyone” reason NOT to draft someone.

Personal opinion- outside of Allgeirs, I don’t think there’s another player on his team that will play in the NFL.

But at the same time, there’s tape of Wilson against significantly better teams prior to him taking a serious investment in himself.

If comparing apples to apples, Trey Lance and Zach Wilson both play relative nobodies routinely.

I think Fields is going to measure out better and has the bigger arm, but I think Lance has shown a tiny bit more recognition skills (recognizing blitzes, recognizing disguised coverages) despite being the less experienced player.

Fields is very much a great prospect in his own right, but I think he’s a touch more reliant on his physical gifts v. his mental ones right now than Lance is.

When I watched Lance I found him surprisingly polished from a footwork and recognition perspective for someone with so little experience.

You could make the case that Fields has the higher upside because of the physical gifts, but the fact that Lance only has 17 starts and shows more advanced quarterback skills really intrigues me.

That’s said, I think the Cam Newton comparison for Fields is very appropriate and Newton won a friggin NFL MVP and took a team to the Super Bowl.

I like them both. I like Lance a tiny bit more, but that could change as I see how much Fields has progressed this season.

So this is spot on with how I feel about Fields and why I don't think he's the same level of prospect as Lawrence (who I think is probably the best QB prospect of my life).

Last year Fields took a lot of punishment because he held onto the ball too long, relying on his athletic ability to make a play instead of his mental ability.

Now, you can absolutely win in the NFL that way. Roethlisberger has won a lot of games and multiple rings by hanging onto the ball forever and ever, taking a lot of sacks, with the hopes of making a big play.

But, I'd rather the dude who dissects the defense quickly with his eyes than the one who does it with his mobility.

Also, if he wants to, Lawrence can run like a deer. Reminds me very much of Aaron Rodgers in that, when pressed, he can absolutely outrun most people on the field.

You are sprinting to the podium for Trask? Usually guys take a long walk for guys slated to be backup nfl qbs.

Here's a player I'm following very closely, considering the huge need at linebacker:

I'm always a fan of anyone playing in the back seven with experience at quarterback. They can read and diagnose plays quickly, even if they are unpolished with some the the finer points of defense at first.

He won ACC player of the week twice this season. He has been brilliant against the run and blitzing, might be the perfect counter to Lamar Jackson because he played as a running QB at a high level.

His weakness so far is pass coverage and he needs to break up more passes, but that is his learning curve.
