I think Fields is going to measure out better and has the bigger arm, but I think Lance has shown a tiny bit more recognition skills (recognizing blitzes, recognizing disguised coverages) despite being the less experienced player.
Fields is very much a great prospect in his own right, but I think he’s a touch more reliant on his physical gifts v. his mental ones right now than Lance is.
When I watched Lance I found him surprisingly polished from a footwork and recognition perspective for someone with so little experience.
You could make the case that Fields has the higher upside because of the physical gifts, but the fact that Lance only has 17 starts and shows more advanced quarterback skills really intrigues me.
That’s said, I think the Cam Newton comparison for Fields is very appropriate and Newton won a friggin NFL MVP and took a team to the Super Bowl.
I like them both. I like Lance a tiny bit more, but that could change as I see how much Fields has progressed this season.
