Agreed. Realistically can’t think of a better one since we’ve returned.

I can buy it. This one doesn’t have Andrew Luck, but if you put top four against top four, I’d argue as prospects, this might have 2, 3 and 5,6.
I think you're sleeping a little bit on how highly regarded RG3 was at the time.
Also, he wasn't a highly regarded prospect at the time, but I think if Russell Wilson the prospect was available in the 2020 draft instead of 2012, he'd have been a first rounder.
NFL teams have come a long way from the whole "this guy is too short!" thinking.

So we have given up completely on Mayfield and have to trade up to get another QB when the defense needs big help and we are technically without our top WR and RB?
I love this QB class which means also we could see if we can find a QB to develop as well, but right now giving up on Mayfield, just doesn't make a ton of sense in my mind. We still have to build that defense and with Richardson, Vernon etc being older and expensive plus our DB situation needs another playmaker, not sure why we would try to upgrade a position that is fine.
That position is widely considered the "most important position in team sports." Do you really want to settle with *fine* for it?
A singular focus on the quarterback position is the product of conditioning in Cleveland because the QBs have been so bad since the mid-1980s. It's not the current problem overall. The point he is making is the Browns won't won anything unless multiple positions are upgraded on defense. It's a valid point.
If this season continues as it has, there will be no option to improve at QB without going semi-Ditka. The Browns will be picking low enough that a 1st tier QB prospect won't be available without trading two 1sts and maybe a sweetener. And this for a prospect that won't be any more highly regarded than Mayfield was when he came out. It doesn't seem like the direction the franchise should be heading unless the second half of the season goes completely off the rails.Literally no one is saying Mayfield is the only, or biggest, problem with the Browns, though.
As the, widely accepted, "most important position in sports," the theory is the biggest leap of improvement can be made when *that* position is improved. The Chiefs and Texans (to a lesser degree, thanks to BOB) became contenders with that move. A really good QB makes the rest of the team better; including the defense.
I also don't think anyone is suggesting going Mike Ditka and trading an entire draft for a backup. A modest trade for a better QB option that could be had cheaply would also allow money to be spent on defensive players, as well.
