2021 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Again, refocusing to a position the Browns definitely need to fill in the draft.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah of Notre Dame facing off against the NFL caliber Clemson offense is going to be a great measure for his ceiling at the next level. Notre Dame has been rolling opponents, but they are finally an underdog this afternoon.

I can buy it. This one doesn’t have Andrew Luck, but if you put top four against top four, I’d argue as prospects, this might have 2, 3 and 5,6.

I think you're sleeping a little bit on how highly regarded RG3 was at the time.

Also, he wasn't a highly regarded prospect at the time, but I think if Russell Wilson the prospect was available in the 2020 draft instead of 2012, he'd have been a first rounder.

NFL teams have come a long way from the whole "this guy is too short!" thinking.

Very true!

Russ the prospect was pretty comparable to Kyler, right? Kyler's faster and better running, but they're both incredibly accurate, athletic talents.

RG3 was, at the time, the best non-Luck prospect since perhaps Peyton.

Agreed. Realistically can’t think of a better one since we’ve returned.

The bar is probably set by 2004 so far. Eli Manning, Phil Rivers, Big Ben, and Matt Schaub was the mid-round overachiever. That's two HOF locks, one HOF cusp quarterback, and a long time starter. Who did the Browns take? Luke McCown!

The key to every "this is the best QB class ever" is watching who can make the jump. Every two or three years I hear the same line... then when the QBs have to fit throws into NFL passing windows and read NFL coverages, half of them turn into Leaf, Manziel and Darnold.

So we have given up completely on Mayfield and have to trade up to get another QB when the defense needs big help and we are technically without our top WR and RB?

I love this QB class which means also we could see if we can find a QB to develop as well, but right now giving up on Mayfield, just doesn't make a ton of sense in my mind. We still have to build that defense and with Richardson, Vernon etc being older and expensive plus our DB situation needs another playmaker, not sure why we would try to upgrade a position that is fine.

That position is widely considered the "most important position in team sports." Do you really want to settle with *fine* for it?

A singular focus on the quarterback position is the product of conditioning in Cleveland because the QBs have been so bad since the mid-1980s. It's not the current problem overall. The point he is making is the Browns won't won anything unless multiple positions are upgraded on defense. It's a valid point.

No one has "given up" on Mayfield necessarily.

I just don't think anyone can say with certainty that Baker is the quarterback that the Browns organization absolutely, no questions asked should move forward with.

As weak as other positions may be on the Browns, none of those positions are A. as important as quarterback or B. as difficult to fill as quarterback.

Literally no one is saying Mayfield is the only, or biggest, problem with the Browns, though.

As the, widely accepted, "most important position in sports," the theory is the biggest leap of improvement can be made when *that* position is improved. The Chiefs and Texans (to a lesser degree, thanks to BOB) became contenders with that move. A really good QB makes the rest of the team better; including the defense.

I also don't think anyone is suggesting going Mike Ditka and trading an entire draft for a backup. A modest trade for a better QB option that could be had cheaply would also allow money to be spent on defensive players, as well.

I know I’m wrong on Trask. His footwork is very good. His touch is very good. But I just don’t see the arm strength I think I should, but I can’t stop watching.

If this season continues as it has, there will be no option to improve at QB without going semi-Ditka. The Browns will be picking low enough that a 1st tier QB prospect won't be available without trading two 1sts and maybe a sweetener. And this for a prospect that won't be any more highly regarded than Mayfield was when he came out. It doesn't seem like the direction the franchise should be heading unless the second half of the season goes completely off the rails.

Snagging a falling Wilson while we have Mayfield would feel a lot like the Chiefs moving up to grab Mahomes while they still had Alex Smith...

I'm a Mayfield guy, but if you have a chance to get someone who can be an elite QB, AND you'll have him on his rookie deal, you don't let someone who's currently just okay get in the way of that.
