2021 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Snagging a falling Wilson while we have Mayfield would feel a lot like the Chiefs moving up to grab Mahomes while they still had Alex Smith...

I'm a Mayfield guy, but if you have a chance to get someone who can be an elite QB, AND you'll have him on his rookie deal, you don't let someone who's currently just okay get in the way of that.

Couple of major differences...

1. Alex Smith was going into his age 33 season when the Chiefs opted to trade up for Mahomes and he was clearly a finished product. Mayfield is only 25 and may still have more room for growth.

2. The Chiefs had already lost in the playoffs three times with Smith, never reaching the conference title game. They knew before they ever traded up to get Mahomes that they had reached their ceiling with him as their QB.

If the Browns opt to draft a QB in the first round of the 2021 draft, either with their original pick or in a trade up, that would be the end of Baker Mayfield in a Browns uniform in my opinion.

I don't see a scenario where the Browns would *want* to play Mayfield over a first round rookie because if they're pulling the trigger on a new QB in the first round it's because they don't feel Mayfield is good enough.

That said... you can't keep Baker as the backup either. It's basically locker room suicide to straight up bench a three-year starter and then try and retain him as a second stringer. Mayfield wouldn't want that and god forbid the rookie QB struggled early, you'd have a mutiny on your hands.

Everything you said here is correct.

I'm not stanning to draft a QB in this class, but if they felt they had the option to get someone truly elite, and reset the QB contract back to a 5 year clock, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I think we're fine with Baker, at least riding out his rookie contract, but I'm always open to getting better at the position, both in terms of talent, and financially.

Same page.

I trust Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski. If they believe Baker Mayfield is the guy they want to move forward with in 2021, then I trust them.

If those two think one of the top QB prospects will be a better quarterback for the Browns than Baker Mayfield is and they believe they can acquire said player, then I am totally fine with them doing that and moving on from Mayfield.

Just a few random late night draft thoughts

Safety: normally I’d say that with Harrison and Delpit we do not need or rather shouldn’t use a top100 pick on another safety. But knowing how critical that big nickel is in the Woods scheme, I would be comfortable taking a safety in the 2nd or 3rd.

QB: so tricky. First we need to let the final 8 games play out. Second we need to hope that Stefanski and Berry merit our trust in terms of what they see not just in the games but in practice and the QB room with Baker. You can win a Super Bowl with just a “fine” QB, but that generally happens with someone making either rookie contract money or backup money. How many times does an “average/just fine” QB who takes up 10-20% of his teams salary cap win or reach a Super Bowl.

DE: this needs a massive upgrade and with the amount of money we’re paying Myles, I also think think it’s a certainty that we forego signing a Premium DE in Free Agency and pick one with our 1st or 2nd.

Again, refocusing to a position the Browns definitely need to fill in the draft.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah of Notre Dame facing off against the NFL caliber Clemson offense is going to be a great measure for his ceiling at the next level. Notre Dame has been rolling opponents, but they are finally an underdog this afternoon.

Had himself a game upsetting the #1 team in the nation.

5. Washington - Zach Wilson

Neither Dwayne Haskins nor Kyle Allen are the future at the quarterback position in Washington. Zach Wilson is a large statured quarterback that is showing improvement in his ability to drive the ball downfield. Washington would need to add some additional wide receiver and/or tight end help.

17. Cleveland - Jayson Oweh

Cleveland has turned over every edge rusher stone: Jadeveon Clowney, Yannick Ngakoue and, most recently, Takk McKinley. They have made their intentions known and Jayson Oweh would quell the need for assistance.

18. Cleveland Browns: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB, Notre Dame
The Browns could use help both at linebacker and slot cornerback. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah makes a world of sense in that case, as he is a huge hybrid that can condense both of those roles into one player. A 6-foot-2 man should be able to move as well as Owusu-Koramoah does. His upside is tremendous, and the Browns get a steal here in the middle of the first round in this 4-round 2021 NFL mock draft.

49. Cleveland Browns: Patrick Jones II, EDGE, Pittsburgh

81. Cleveland Browns: Rodarius Williams, CB, Oklahoma State

112. Cleveland Browns: Amari Rodgers, WR, Clemson

114. Cleveland Browns (via PHI): Bubba Bolden, S, Miami

I like Owusu-Koramoah, but I think with the current makeup of our roster we need to prioritize adding impact players at DE and S. I think we might be able to find vet LB help via trade or FA for a reasonable price. Personally I feel like improving the secondary and the line will already help the LB’s. If we’re able to get away with not investing a ton in terms of picks or money at LB this year that could go a long way.

Wish the Browns had any shot we Kyle Pitts this off season but he’ll be an easy top 10 pick.

What are the odds the Browns could nab Tylan Wallace in round 2?

Could? Probably. Will? Doubtful.

I adore Tylan Wallace. He’s going to test, from a speed standpoint, very similar to Diggs.

Hes incredible. That ACL should drop him far enough that there will be insane value wherever he goes.

If the Browns draft Owusu-Koramoah, they will have speed in zone coverage and in run support to cover some difficulties at safety.

I'm also wondering if Greedy is ever going to get his shoulder right. If the Browns need a starting outside corner, the lower half of the first round is a reasonable place to find one.
