2021 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Von Miller might become available too.

Considering how hard our FO looked at Clowney, I wouldn't be shocked if Dupree or Miller become high level targets.
I'd be shocked if we spent premium money on our second edge rusher. Maybe there's a chance Von is willing to do a shorter deal, but Dupree is going to get paid... and I'm not sure Dupree will be worth the deal he gets.

If anything, I'm spending on a WR in FA. They need someone with speed desperately. And while I love this WR class, I would like to use a lot of draft capital on the defense rather than the offense at this point.

Von Miller has the connection with Myles Garrett too and when Dorsey was still here we were rumored to be interested in trading for him. I would look at adding Von Miller to play opposite Myles Garrett as a similar move that DEN made when they added DeMarcus Ware to play opposite Von Miller. It's really like a 3 year move for a veteran experienced pass rusher while the team makes a run for it.

It wouldn't make a lot of sense to spend on a WR in FA considering Jarvis and OBJ are both likely to be on the roster for week 1 next season. I think we have to trust that they can fins another DPJ late in the draft.

With where we're at on defensive and where our picks are going to fall in the draft, I'm a pretty big advocate of trading our 1st or 2nd round pick for some type of high-level veteran at S or maybe another pass rusher. Especially on defense, this team is still very young and we'll be investing heavily in the draft to improve it. Bringing in a veteran guy that can not only be an impact player but also offer leadership would be extremely valuable to this defense.

While we could look at LB or CB as well, I'd rather draft younger guys to fill those needs and build depth. Who that might be I don't really know, but given where we appear to be as a team, we aren't going to want to wait a couple of years to see if all these guys pan out. We still need to build the roster through the draft, but I think now is the time to take a swing on a trade like that for a veteran guy. We missed the boat on Minka, but we've all seen first hand with the Steelers how adding the right player to a young defense can really change things.

Luckily, Dorsey and Phil Savage aren't our GM anymore so the rest of us don't have to worry about this team giving up valuable draft capital just for the opportunity to pay aging veterans more money.

Perhaps if you actually read it you'd see I said someone like Minkah. I'm not interested in paying a 30+ year-old. If we can move a pick for a younger guy like Minkah, I'm all in.

As long as you trust your organization to get production per dollar available, then there is no reason to make trades like this. Rookie contracts are where you can far exceed production per dollar, so let's draft well and build a sustainable winner.

If you wanted to trade for an elite young safety, Jamal Adams was moved this year. It cost Seattle two firsts, a third, and a player. I'm incredibly high on Adams, and I still don't think I make that move--but it's close.

If you say "Hey, I hope we can pull off a trade like Minkah" then sure I agree with you. Pittsburgh got a steal on a fantastic player that a tanking team wanted to trade away. But, those are rare.

You build winning teams through the draft. We have veterans on defense. That doesn't contribute to winning if they're not good.

Minkah deal was a shock and those don't come around that often. We also don't have the flexibility to sign any marquee FA's due to the fact that all those young guys we are currently developing are developing into good players that will need to get paid.

I'd like to see us sign some reasonable backup veterans, especially DB's. You always have injuries during the course of a season, and if we're looking to make a run, having some backups to fill in could be critical. Not as expensive as the studs, but still very useful.

At this point, I’d say there’s only two offensive player-types I’d take in the first three rounds:

1. A true game-changer at TE. Think Kelse, Gronk, Gates, etc. Those types of guys.
2. A big, fast, strong WR in the mold of Metcalf, Jones, Calvin, etc.

Basically it’d take someone like Kyle Pitts sliding to our spot or a guy to unexpectedly fall like DK Metcalf for me to not take a defensive player. We could effectively take BPA on defense for our 1st four picks and probably not have any issues. Just focus on adding impact players that fit the scheme even if there happens to be some overlap in position. We need depth at every position and 1-2 impact players out of this draft.

I guess I would also consider using a 2nd or 3rd to keep building depth on the OL. Tretter has two years left and neither of Bitonio’s last two years are guaranteed. With all the guys we’re going to have up for extension, replacing Bitonio with a 1st or 2nd year player would save quite a bit of money. Not saying we should do it this year as Bitonio has played very well, but his cap number is $10,000,000 the next two seasons. Teller’s going to cost money, and we have a lot of money invested in the tackle positions. Drafting a guy to groom for a year could be a good move if we’re maybe moving on from Bitonio or Tretter in the near future.

If we assume we're going to have to extend Baker, Chubb, Ward and Teller, I honestly think I'd rather have a league average starter on a rookie contract for 4-5 years than a pro bowler on his second contract. Depends on who's available, but cheap decent starters via the draft is how you sustain success in the NFL.

Feels like a lot of people have forgotten how well the Browns loaded up day two and three picks for the 2021 draft:

1st round - Browns pick

2nd round - Browns pick

3rd round - Browns pick, Saints pick (Delpit trade down)

4th round - Browns pick, Eagles pick (Genard Avery trade)

5th round - Browns pick OR Rams pick (Corbett out, Harrison in)

6th round - Browns

7th round - Browns pick OR Bills pick (Janovich, Teller trades)

We actually did a good job of this this past offseason with Karl Joseph, Sendejo, and Kevin Johnson.

Jokes aside about Sendejo I'd expect a similar type process this offseason.

27) Cleveland Browns: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB, Notre Dame

The Browns are having one of their best seasons in a long time and seem to be going full-speed ahead in securing a postseason bid. One clear weakness is the linebacker position, making the versatile Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah a perfect selection. Owusu-Koramoah, the former safety, has insane range and could be Cleveland’s answer to a division rival and last year’s MVP Lamar Jackson.

60) Cleveland Browns: Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State

91) Cleveland Browns: Xavier Thomas, EDGE, Clemson

95) Cleveland Browns: Marlon Tuipulotu, DT, USC

102) Cleveland Browns: Hamsah Nasirildeen, S, Florida State

124) Cleveland Browns: Monty Rice, LB, Georgia

154) Cleveland Browns: Cade Mays, OL, Tennessee

188) Cleveland Browns: Thayer Munford, OT, Ohio State

220) Cleveland Browns: Skylar Thompson, QB, Kansas State
