2021 Game #2 | #3 Ohio State vs. #12 Oregon | September 11th, 2021 @ 12 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We arent that good. Uconn is the worst team in Div 1 and our offensive line is just awful. The one secret I do have is Purdue has the best WR in the Big Ten in David Bell....yes better than any OSU receiver.

I think Penn State has the best Receiver tbh.

I mean, OSU has at least four 1st round WRs on their team right now. No idea who in the Big Ten is supposed to be better than Garrett Wilson, or even Olave. But I doubt it's reality.

David Bell....he will be a 1st rounder too

Jahan Dotson has the best ball skills in the conference.

The only things stopping him from being a high pick are his size (which isn't a big problem for WRs anymore really) and his QB. Clifford is just terrible.

Not saying it should happen, but who are some good young coaches that could be available? Not that anybody wants to see Day get replaced, or think he is overrated and road the wave set by Urban and now the wave has crested. No one really wants to see this, but God forbid it happened, who would be a great choice to lead this program?

I think Day needs an offensive coordinator that will inspire him to evolve his offense. Basically what Herman did first for Urban Meyer then Day did a second time for Urban during his tenure. I just don't think we can have the same offense year in year out that doesn't evolve with the turnover that occurs with the defensive coordinators. We just don't have that stability to keep a top tier defense. We need to be a team with a creative top tier offense.

I don't think theres any evidence yet that points to this.

The offense was elite the last two years.

I think it's reasonable to expect there to be a drop off in the first two games with a freshman QB starting.

Even the great Lincoln Riley saw his team take a step back last year when they started a freshman.

If I am remembering correctly, isn't Haskins really the only QB OSU has had in recent memory who was similar to Stroud? As just really a non runner?

Maybe I am completely off base on that and Stroud has enough running ability but the offensive adjustment seems tougher with that added dynamic. Of having to break in an inexperienced QB and not having more low risk plays like a QB run in key spots. It just puts a lot of pressure on a young passer if he gets in to moments where the defense can pin their ears back and rush...and DB's can sit on routes. That seemed to show up a bit against Oregon later in the game. Windows closed, Oregon started to get Stroud off platform and his throws were a little more erratic.

If the QB doesn't have gravity, it just makes it so much tougher up front in college too. OSU was so good at gashing teams with huge gains up the middle, because guys like Fields, Barrett, etc. had the gravity to pull a spy out of position on the fake. I really noticed Oregon just gap filing and ignoring Stroud and I'm curious to see how OSU tries to adjust to that in spots where they need to run. Does OSU have a gadget QB on the roster that could run some read or wild cat?

Will be fascinating to watch though......because Stroud seems so different from the typical QB OSU has had in the Meyer / Day era. It seems like they have the offensive talent around him to support it......just skill wise.....but damn their defense looks terrible. That is mainly why I don't get all the hand wringing over the offense. There will be ups and downs with a young QB but the offense generally played well enough to beat a team like Oregon.......but the defense was a dumpster fire for most of that game and relative to the talent OSU gets year over year, just hasn't been great recently.

I think Day is a very good offensive mind but I think college football is constantly evolving on offense. I think it's a good idea to stay in front and try to keep evolving an offense. I think with more tape, teams will be able to get into Days thinking and what he likes to call. Bring in an offensive coordinator doesn't mean his offense is broken or it's not elite, it's just another offensive mind to bring in new concepts. Urban Meyer would talk about how him and Herman would work off each other to become more creative.

If Day were to bring in an offensive coordinator, I would like to see someone who has a strong record of different run concepts. I don't think Day needs help in the passing game but he could benefit from different looks in the run game.

We are aware that Kevin Wilson exists and plays a big role in crafting weekly offensive game plans, yes?
We should be aware... :chuckle:

Again...the issue with this team is the defense, which is quite literally one of the worst in the nation right now. Our offense is better than everyone on our schedule by a wide margin, it simply isn't a concern at this point given how impossibly bad this defense is.

You were pretty clear about the premise but people were still mad, lol. Anyway I think having Fickell in our back pocket is good, not sure who else.

We replace Day with Matt Campbell yet? Or whoever the flavor of the year is?

I do find it funny that so many seemed certain about Matt Campbell being special at Iowa State but it really remains to be seen with the way their season has started. Feel like the same was happening for Fleck until they ate shit last year.

Just shit takes on top of shit takes.

OSU losing triggers the most reactionary, emotional nonsense. Completely incoherent and filled with non-direct criticisms that don’t even resemble a rational argument.

Offering even less with regard to solutions.

Not really what “reactionary” means, btw, but that’s beside the point.

Thats because I have a near impeccable memory.

That post by Macbog was 100% a shot at Day. He doesn't like him and thinks he sucks.

He's made that known.
