2021 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ducks entered the bottom of 8th down 5-0. Kudos to them! Most definitely the shining star to a dismal baseball season here in Cleveland.

Their rotation will dominate triple A next season.
Many players from Akron will be deserving of promotions but don't forget .... many of the pitchers & position players for this Akron playoff series started the year in Lake County.

A number of the Akron players that did well in leading and keeping the RDucks in the thick of it are now in CBus (or even CLE or the IL)...

Will Benson
Oscar Gonzalez
Richie Palacios
Steven Kwan
Alex Call
Tyler Freeman

Cody Morris
Adam Scott
Francisco Perez
Juan Hillman

It will be interesting to see which of the players listed here are still with the organization, who is in CLE and who is in CBus.
From there those AA players deserving of promotion will fill in a number of spots..

I feel like at least 80% if not higher of our current MLB.com top 30 prospects will make it to the bigs in some capacity and that is just ridiculous since you rarely ever see that type of number... I almost want to say that if they went to top 40-50 range I dont think that percentage is changing... They really have done a great job building this minor league system...

We need to figure out what to do with with our next wave of pitching. Top 5 in the bigs is set. Even after that, seem to be good.

I'll slot in Eli as our 6th starter/depth guy. I'd like to also slot in Logan Allen Senior as our 7th guy, bringing him back to start in AAA. He's still just 24 years old and entered the season as our 4th starter. Give him another shot.

After that, then what? Great, great problem to have. Don't get me wrong.

Cody Morris 8th starter, with helium potential to move much higher. Then

Adam Scott/Juan Hillman = Probably going to get passed over.

The current AA Champs which is just loaded.

Bettenfield
Curry
Pilkington
Logan Allen Junior

Not to mention ESPINOGOAT is coming hard. Plus Burns peeking up at us in High A.

Pilkington has to make the roster or risk getting lost. We can easily afford to lose him. Would love to flip Plesac and another guy maybe like Pilk or Curry + a bat prospect for a legit OF bat. Then see Morgan/Morris as the 5th guy for next year and see how we do.

A Top 3 next year of BieGOAT, QUAIL, Civale is tough to top, if healthy. Plus the wildcard TMAC. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WE. Let's fuggin go.

Your excitement looking forward to next season is shared by virtually everyone here. As coach said, the farm system right now is in incredible shape. Again, most all agree with that.

The addition of Pilkington and Battenfield at the break was icing on the cake regarding the starting pitching staff moving forward.

The reality is...2 huge upgrades are needed in the outfield and as Dav45 says, a catcher that can actually hit a baseball is required for next season as well in order to challenge the White Sox next season. Pitching is important for sure, but offense matters too.

Other teams seem to have no problems at all in giving their 21 and 22 year olds a shot to succeed. Would absolutely love for the Indians to give Lavastida a real look in the Spring to be the starting catcher. Same can be said for George Valera to fill an outfield slot.

It's too soon for Lavastida to break camp with the organization and mostly cause of the fact he lacks innings at catcher you would like. I think his bat and athleticism will get him to the pros and having a spring learning from Sandy, Perez and Hedges would be great for him, but he isn't ready and I am likely his one of his biggest supporters on this board but I have to be real as well.

In my GM scenario I resigned Perez for two seasons at a lower rate (we could do the same with Hedges) so they would split time with Lavastida in 23 when he should be ready for the pros team. We could always get a Rene Rivera type again/someone to AAA that can help him learn advanced catching skills.

In 23 Bo Naylor gets added to the 40 man as well, so he would be at the same spot as Lavastida in 22. So in 24 our catchers are Lavastida and Naylor which hopefully is the Gomes and Perez combo we had in the past...

It's time for a saliva test...

When the Indians has had a 21-22 yr old worthy of getting a look in Cleveland, they have done it.

Since 2000...

Logan Allen
Francisco Mejia
Lindor
Jose
Bauer
Chiz
Alex White
Jeanmar Gomez
Brantley
Droobs
Aaron Laffey
Mujica
Andy Marte
Grady
Franklin Gutierrez
Francisco Cruceta
Peralta
Brandon Phillips
CC Sabathia
Coco Crisp
Alex Herrera
Jason Davis
Tim Drew
Willie Martinez

A few...Grady, CC, Lindor, and Droobs...made an instant impact, which is what fans unrealistically expect.

Several had fine careers, but didn't make an impact for several years.

But half of them never had even a 2 WAR season and are mostly forgotten.

If we had had a kid that young that could have made a real difference, he would have gotten a chance. But our difference making prospects aren't quite ready. We may see one next year.

I don't agree with this statement at all. The brass doesn't know until the opportunity is granted. The list you showed points out that some make it others won't. The team the Indians put out there this season cries out for a whole bunch of youngstes to be given an opportunity next spring. There are plenty of present day people that need to be shed from the 40 man.
