If we can agree that we want to keep Harold Ramirez in center, Luplow in right, and Naylor at first (putting Bauers and Chang on the bench or on the train), then that leaves Gimenez and Amed Rosario at shortstop. Since they're both defensively challenged, what about having Amed play because at least he can hit? Or at least platoon them since Amed kills left-handed pitching (.311 and .316 the last two years).

Yesterday with a lefty starter (Danny Duffy who came in with an 0.60 ERA) Tito went with Amed and he responded with a single and a triple, driving in two runs. I think it's hard to justify playing Gimenez against a lefty starter when you have Amed who hits lefites like Jordan Luplow. It's not like Gimenez has been robbing base hits with spectacular defensive plays. In fact, he's been screwing some routine ones.

Unfortunately, Amed is 5-for-42 (.119) against righties, so I could see playing Andres against a right-handed starter. He's not doing anything against them, either, at .173, but I have more confidence in his glove.

I guess I'm voting for a platoon.

Problem is the division plays an absurd amount of left handed starters so Gimenez hasn't been getting ABs.

Also I think I trust Luplow more in CF than HRam at the end of the day, but otherwise until he stops hitting, he has earned a spot out there.

Prospect nerds, I’ve found something that might break the internet (for us).

Courtesy of Longenhagen Daily Prospect Video, he somehow c/p links without revealing how exactly he did it, but I think I cracked it. I’ll just drop it here for your jaw to drop:

No, none of the CLE affiliates games so far work, there are obviously parks that have the technology though. I’ve found a handful of games, mostly low A, I think and most games weren’t televised (seems to be a check, but otoh not all non televised games have it)

Something definitely to be monitored…

Reds and Indians are 3rd and 4th in the majors in barrell percentage. Indians are 7th in hard hit percentage and 5th in average exit velo.

Pretty cool site.

When I've watched games at home over the last two years, I usually have the baseballsavant tab open.

On one hand, I love that you actually break down and talk about specifics like this instead of just using Gimenez's number of errors without context.

On the other, I'm a bit surprised that a Cleveland fan, of all fans, would have problems with a plus-defensive shortstop who fields the position in an unorthodox manner. Everything Omar did was wrong, poor fundamentals, and against the book... until arguably the greatest defensive shortstop of all time rewrote the book.
On routine plays, Omar fielded, crow hopped and fired, just like you are supposed to do. What made him elite was what he did on the hard to make plays.

Wham, I couldn't agree with what you say here more. The numbers you posted here don't lie. Amed platooning with Giminez is the way to go. Until a change is made due to non production.

Omar had the quickest release that I have seen, which made up for an average arm.

But even when he had the time, he backhanded, instead of getting into proper condition. He was so good, his hands were so quick and sure, that it didn't matter...to him.

In some ways, Omar was fundamentally unsound.

Personally, I had a heck of a time convincing my better fielding youth players not to do things Omar's way...and a couple Dads, too.

The same thing with young batters, trying to be Jim Thome.

I eventually told my kids to watch Omar swing a bat and Thome field. Although Thome was not a good fielder, it was more about lack of ability than lack of fundamentals, while Omar was fundamentally sound with a bat.
