2021 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Any thoughts on Richie Palacios? He should finish the year in AAA and has been one of the most consistent performers in the minors this season. He is also playing a bit more outfield lately so..

Essentially we will know come November how the organization feels about him since I'd be very surprised if he doesn't get taken by like a bottom dwelling team in the rule 5 draft next season...

Another one of those under the radar signings, Criz...

Palacios issues will become real when he makes the next two jumps.. The defensive prowess is there.. he's just a good athlete that can play.. It will come down to vision, pitch recognition.. bat to ball and controlling the strike zones.. So far.. at AA, he's been miles ahead of where you might find a "free swinger" as he's walking nearly two thirds of the time he's strike out. Both, btw, between 10 and 20 percent.

That last jump..to the ML's is going to be his waterloo.. or his moment of glory..

Thoughts?...

I didn't think he was under the radar personally...

How do you think he will look in the organization for 22? I feel like he's borderline when it comes to making his big league debut in 22 for someone...

I've never heard free swinger on Palacios even from his days before the draft, always has drawn rave reviews for pitch selection if memory serves. I feel his knocks were his level of competition while at college and then what would be his power and strength development. Seems like he is a straight ball player from a family of them but somewhat slight of build. Screams more of a tweener feel if he doesn't stay in the center of the diamond. I personally am all in on him as at worst a 4th OFer / utility player type but think if he can get the playing time and put on some more weight he could easily develop into more. Also the optimist in me feels we've been able to develop some similar profiles. My main concern is being over powered once in the majors but isn't that the concern on any similar small build players until they get to the majors and sink or swim.

Palacios was a 3rd rounder, who moved three levels in his first year of pro ball. He missed two seasons due to surgery and Covid....but has hit at every level.

okay.. being "miles ahead of a free swinger".. agrees with him NOT BEING A FREE SWINGER.. please don't misquote..

W/R to his readiness.. name anyone taken after him in the 2018 draft that has earned even 1 WAR (you can pick the brand)..

The story is that he really built up during his two years off.

my apologizes, misread that.

I'm all in on Richie. An acquaintance where I am from know him personally from some work Richie has done with his son in the past. I just was stating I feel like the only knock imo besides losing a couple seasons one of which was out of his control would be his size.

When watching on milb.tv he still seems small to me, but the above mention acquaintance said he put on a bunch of strength after that first injury. I hope so, love his profile and that he came from a CAA school and the stories I heard about him he just screams someone who loves the game works his butt off and is good with youths. He's arguably one of my favorite players because I think he's just such a safe bet floor wise. I hope he is a lock to be protected and if it was my call I would.

He does come across as "small" looking but is a double machine - I think he currently leads our minor leaguers in doubles. Will some of those start going over the fence? I think so - his makeup/profile and his amazing performance after missing competitive baseball for 2 years should have most of screaming for him. Yet he seems to continue his flight under the radar.

Owen Miller, Tyler Freeman and Richie Palacios all are lining up to be our 2nd baseman... My thoughts?

Palacios ends up in the OF, Owen Miller goes super utility and Freeman at 2nd. No reason to hang onto Cesar. Lets see if Miller can play second the rest of the year.

That or call up Gimenez and slide Amed over to 2B. They could deal Amed as well if they wanted as well. Seems like a lot of moving parts though. I have no fucking inclination as to what this organization is going to do.
