2021 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Nice note from Baseball America,,,

George Valera, High-A Lake County (Indians) — At 20 years old, Valera is one of the better prospects in the Indians' system. He's cut his strikeout rate this year, which is a key step in his development. On Wednesday, he slammed two home runs in Lake County's win over Lansing. With the home runs, Valera is now one of four players who are 21 years old or younger and have hit 10 or more home runs in fewer than 50 minor league games.

Re: Valera

Seeing exactly what you'd want to see from a player who has taken the next step with his approach.

He's 2.5 years younger than the average player in A+ right now.

.926 OPS with an 18% BB rate? That's #1 org. prospect territory for me.

Now that he is nearing 200 plate appearances in Lake County, any indication on when Valera will get the promotion to Akron?

I was concerned with Valera as the season started. But he has definitely taken a solid stomp forward and there are even indicators he could take off like a rocket.

I suspect he will finish in Akron, assuming Kwan or Benson finish in AAA. He could finish in A+ but would be mildly surprised.

If he's kept in A+ it's mostly going to be because of the amount of games played in the minors. Otherwise, it wouldn't surprise me of an AA debut at the end of the season.

I think Kwan needs a AAA debut and Noel needs an A+ debut...

All of this who is moving/ when is so & so moving is guessing/ speculating on the part of fans (myself included).

The CLE FO & player development team has done a solid job with its decisions.
While there are more reasons behind keeping Noel in Low A than Valera in High A, there are still legit reasons for those decisions not to move players. If the FO feels those reasons outweigh a promotion, then a player is unlikely to move.

Because Valera will not be returning to High A in 2022, moving up to Akron at the end of the year seems rather likely.

There are 40ish games left for A and AA. Seems reasonable he spends the last 20 of those in AA, same with Noel for high A.

Also I can't seem to locate it but when they pushed back the start of the AAA season a month did they also reduce the number of games to be played? The numbers I had for A and AA would be 120 games and 142 for AAA.

Edit. a spot for Valera can be created immediately by jettisoning Chris Roller.

Originally the AAA season was to start at the same time as MLB. That start was delayed and games played equal to the rest of the full season levels.

there was something put out a month or so ago that would extend the full season levels by another week of play as sort of a playoff for all teams.

but wait, you just told me he stay in A+ this season and debuts in AA next....

More or less I would bet on him staying in A+ but seeing him debut at AA wouldn't 100% surprise me..
