2021 MLB Draft / College Baseball Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Beede? I don't remember pimping him and he was taken before we picked, so pointless. I remember that Luke Weaver was my shadow pick in 2014 over Zimmer and Buehler over Aiken in '15. And I pimped some guy named Bieber way before he inked a pro contract.
and I wanted Giolito over.. and so on and so on..

Holy shit. That guy looks like a major league pitcher right now. I'm guessing he's not someone we'd expect to still be available when we pick.....

At this point I would tend to agree that he’s shown enough to get into the Top 15.

The three pitch mix is superb right now. He and Kumar Rocker are both absolutely monsterous.

Can’t remember a draft with two LB-sized college pitchers in the Top 10-15, it’s just a different game right now.

Who do you think we will target? You can never have enough pitching, but I don't see at the moment one position in the lower minors. So I am guessing BPA that we feel we can sign? I personally though don't want to go with the top athlete that I feel like we have done that a lot, but hasn't panned out much in my mind (Holmes, Benson etc).

Jack Leiter no hit South Carolina

Jaden Hill is currently projected to go well inside the top ten.. perhaps at # 8, overall, to the Rockies at the latest.. The depth of arms in this draft is going to make a lot of guys slide.. but not this level of quality..

Might be a guy who goes in the teens, but would be an interesting pick for the Indians.

55:7 K/BB so far in 30+ innings this year.

Gunnar has been mocked as high as 11 to mid/late 20's. He doesn't have elite velo but has great control and three what could be plus pitches at the highest level. He's a lot like the kind of guy the Tribe seeks out..

Ian Smith had this to say about Hogland: ...a very polished SEC arm late in the first round. Hoglund pounds the strike zone with ease with very repeatable operation. Hides the ball well and shows feel for all his pitches. Could have the best command in class, but the raw stuff doesn’t blow you away. Showed an improved ability to get strikeouts in a shortened 2020, so looking to build on that in 2021 as the ace of Ole Miss’ staff.... (prospects365.com)

Indians have been targeting High command pitchers so he will be on the off season short list. The biggest question if they can feel he can add maybe a bit more velocity.

6'4 RHP Michael McGreevy, UCSB

4 pitch mix, all 50/55, low 90s already, best pitch curve, performer with great K/BB ratio = CLE pick

Some of the stuff I am gathering 100% leads me to college player in the 1st. With the change in eligibility for the draft and so many 20 year old college arms eligible I think its a no brainer. Groups I am watching:

Pitchers: Ryan Cusick, Joe Rock, Bryce Miller, McCade Brown (heard him specifically mentioned), Hoglund obviously, and Jonathan Cannon is a sleeper with so little mileage on his arm and a lot to work with. Mixed opinions on Bachman from Miami (OH) with his durability.

Position players: Christian Franklin, Justice Thompson, John Rhodes, Luca Tresh, Colton Cowser, Wes Clarke.

Under/at-slot college player, followed by over slot HS player, followed by under slot college player is my guess for 1, 2, and comp B.

The last college player top pick was Zimmer in 2014, so it would be a surprise if they go college at 23.

FG's Longenhagen has also suggested that scouts have less feel for the college class, because of the lost year and thinks it'll turn more towards HS picks early.
Otoh, that's where our FO might zig to the zag, if they believe the college group offers more upside and value than usual.
