2021 MLB Draft / College Baseball Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is a loaded college pitchers draft. Ton of guys that can go in the 1st.

Has all the makings of an underslotted college pitcher in the 1st and overslotted HS players in round 2 and Comp B for the Indians.
Indians picks at: # 23, # 58 and # 69:
*denotes pick the tribe may be likely to make (or I hope they make) at # 23....
** denotes my second choice...

Pitchers: some names..
-Jonathan Cannon (great name) 6'6" 210 RHP from Georgia..
-Richard Fitts Auburn.. 6'3, 185 played with Tanner Burns...
-Andrew Painter 6'7" 225 RHP Calvary Academy..
-Eric Cerantola 6'5" 195 RHP Miss St (second choice for pitcher)
*-Jackson Jobe 6'3" 190 RHP Heritage HS OK

Infielders: not many names
-Kahlil Watson 2B/SS 5'11" 170 Wake Forest HS
-Isaac Pacheco 3B 6'4" 220 Friendswood Texas

Catchers: del Castillo omitted
-Harry Ford 5'10" 180 R/R North Cobb HS Ga
-Henry Davis 6'2" 195 R/R Louisville
-Ian Moller 6'1" 196 R/R Wahlert HS

Outfielders:
-Ethan Wilson 6'2" 208 c-OF'er LHH South Alabama
-Tyree Reed 6'2" 180 CF LHH American Canyon HS
-Benny Montgomery 6'3" 185 Red Land HS
-Levi Usher 6'1" 195 Louisville
-Josh Baez 6'3" 210 CFer Southfield HS Ma
**-Christian Franklin 5'11" 180 Arkansas

For the Indians first pick, # 23 overall.. narrowing this initial list of 16 prospects down to a choice of two Arkansans.. The elite athleticism of'er Christian Franklin of the University of Arkansas and all his tools and mega spin-master pitcher Jackson Jobe also of the University of Arkansas. While either one works.. Jobe just fits the bill..

Thoughts?

If we draft the guy from Georgia, we can say we have a 'Cannon for an arm'....

I’ve always wanted to get into college baseball. Maybe this thread will help me out. They definitely need some stars in it though.

Yep, my watch list is loaded. I'd welcome an under slot college SP as top pick, but they didn't take a college arm with their first pick in ages. I was pleasantly surprised when they selected Tanner Burns in comp A.

I prefer a college arm early to raw, pop up HS bats (Benson, Holmes, Valdes, Tucker). I understand that we have to take more risks with bats to land upside, but an under slot college SP (or bat) and then take some shots at HS bats over slot later seems smarter, particularly in this class, but generally too. I'm still mad passing on Kowar, Lynch, McClanahan and Bubic while taking a huge risk with a Canadian HS C.

This draft will probably be 20 rounds deep, 21 picks for Cleveland and it's deep in college and JuCo talent after the shortened 2020 draft. Make every pick count.

2 early big school sleepers, probably mid round picks: RHPs L. Marceaux and AJ Labas from LSU. There are dozens more to discuss in the coming months, but those two have CLE profile written all over them.

How do either of these guys have CLE profile written all over them? I don't see it...

I love pitching ninja. Finally made me realize why the hitters swing and so many “shit” pitches. I follow Baseball America, but will definitely follow the others.

Always wanted to go to Bowling Green games while I was there because I’m pretty sure they had a decent squad while I was there. Never went though.

What years?

I’m a BG ‘08 alum.

You guys are young. I graduated BG in '75. Circa Don Nehlen, Dave Wottle.

You not seeing it is part of the appeal ;)

I've liked both out of HS. Both have low 90s FB and good command over 3 avg or better pitches. Marceaux has a plus changeup, something they like too.

but Marceaux is like five foot nothing and weighs only slightly more than McStix.. This guy is just another "pet" that can spin the ball and get overly aggressive college kids out.. while the other guy Aj Labas has had every form type and variety of ailment.. knees, elbow, shoulder and back.. Has he ever been healthy?..

I'm sure if this is what I'm missing.. the CLEFO should continue to miss these guys.. because the Indians hitters.. certainly won't.. nor will just about every other ML hitter..

Are you still steamed over Tyler Beede?..

Beede? I don't remember pimping him and he was taken before we picked, so pointless. I remember that Luke Weaver was my shadow pick in 2014 over Zimmer and Buehler over Aiken in '15. And I pimped some guy named Bieber way before he inked a pro contract.

I recall some of that about Bieber... It got me to watch him/ follow closely in the minors & when he performed so well during 2017 I was raising the flag/ passing the word along to anyone that would listen..
