Beyond the guy at 1B last night, MLB still had Angel "Missed Call" Hernandez and Joe "Bigger than the" West doing games this post-season..

Yah, I despise all of the remaining four teams. I’ll probably only watch a little of the remaining games. I certainly will not be staying up past midnight to watch any of these unlikable teams.

He meant to swing. Ump made the right call. Even if that's called a ball, he probably strikes out on the next pitch bc Max knows he will fish on that slider. The Giants weren't robbed, they gagged on their own vomit and lost this series.

Never came close to "breaking his wrist" or "the plane" or whatever they call it.

Every batter "means to swing" when they start, and then changes their intent mid-swing when they check. The standard you're suggesting is not the standard that MLB uses.

If true, that sounds crazy to me. Something like that shouldn't be completely left to the umpire's discretion. Bad enough that each umpire has his own fucking strike zone. Now in addition to that, batters have to know how each of these fuckers define intent to swing?

The way I have always understood it is it is not a "swing" until the bat breaks the front plane/crosses over the front of the plate. How it is written in the rulebook though is a complete mystery to me.

It's very vague but there is a norm set by precedence, and that kind of check attempt is called a check over 90% of the time.

They're human and prone to mistakes. The bigger question for me is why isn't it reviewable? That would be so quick and easy. They could lump it into the other calls that the managers can challenge at least once.

I know but its a pivotal point of the game, everyone should be paying extreme attention. The home umpire should have made that call himself IMO. It was pretty clear, the 1st base ump shouldn't have been needed IMO.

As KluberSociety said 90% of the time that's a check swing.

I do like the idea of strike 3 check swings being reviewable - for both sides.

The swing was clearly checked and it wasn't even close. I don't want to hear about intent. WTF does that even mean? Obviously there is intent on every check swing.
